We continue into
Psalms chapter 130:7.
Let the people of Israel hope to Hashem.
Hashem does kindness. Kindness is with
him.
And there is much puce with him. The
word produce means redemption or to be
redeemed. And redemption means where you
take something that has a certain
usually a certain holiness and transfer
the holiness onto something else. Or it
could also mean that you have a person
who is incarcerated, he's in jail or
he's captive and you're p him you you
release him from jail in exchange for
something else. And we're going to see
that what it's talking about is the fact
that we are human beings and we make
mistakes and we have sins and we're
enslaved to them. We're captive to our
sahara
and yet Hashem forgives us and he does
kindness with us. He redeems us from our
sins
which by the way is the ultimate if we
want to talk about hope in
if you want to know if you can have
hope. So, one of the things that blocks
us is our sense of unworthiness. We feel
like we don't deserve Hashem's help.
Maybe we haven't done what's right or
maybe we haven't or we've done what's
wrong.
We feel disconnected from Hashem and we
think, "Oh, Hashem can't help me." But
Hashem redeems us. Sometimes he redeems
us through and through difficulties. And
sometimes there's something called,
which is grace.
Let's see the redu
says
you people of Israel must hope to God.
It's a it's a command. Omar King David
is saying
you're stuck in America. You're stuck in
Europe. We're stuck under the the heavy
burden of our sins.
Hope to Hashem that he's going to redeem
you from your exile.
Hashem does kindness. He has the
kindness with him. You want to know
where the place of kindness is? It's
with Hashem with all of his creations.
Hashem will do kindness with you because
he is the one who has so much redemption
in his in his vicinity.
How many times has hashem saved us? How
many times has Hashem redeemed us? How
many times was AmIrael in danger nearing
extinction
amdash is destroyed? Han Harasha trying
to destroy AmI Israel. Inquisitions,
crusades, holocausts. How many times has
it seemed like Am Israel's finished and
Hashem redeemed us and he brought us to
the next stage.
Hashem has no lack of ability to redeem
us to take us out of this situation that
we're in today. So much anti-semitism
war in Israel against the Iranians and
their proxies. Hashem can redeem us in a
moment like in a flash
just as he's done so many times in the
past.
says,
"Hope to Hashem, oh people of Israel,
hope to him at all times."
Because so much redemption is with him.
What does it mean?
There are times of redemption. There's
times that are more misugul that are
more it's it's a time there there are
times that Hashem created embedded
within creation from the first day of
creation. These are times of salvation.
1948 was such a time. 1967 was such a
time. Today perhaps we could say is such
a time a time of redemption
embedded into time but not just in all
of these distant times from each other.
says, "Every day
is a day of redemption.
It's not just, oh, here and there
there's times of redemption." No, every
day has the potential for redemption.
Hope to Hashem. The redemption is going
to come. The salvation is going to come.
Things are going to change. It's going
to be better. It could be any moment.
Believe it.
the concept of requires us to trust in
Hashem's kindness
because Hashem is so much kindness
and to depend on his right is compassion
is kindness. We spoke about this in the
para podcast. You know, we can have it's
not the same thing. It's not the same
idea,
right? Compassion is somebody who's
often a poor person, someone who can't
fend for themselves. We have compassion
on them is even for someone who perhaps
could take care of themselves, but we
want to do kindness for them also.
So no matter what, whether I'm needing
or deserving compassion or whether I
don't deserve it or I don't need it, I
still want Hashem's kindness.
Person, a person should strengthen
himself in the me of Hashem,
which means to say, I think if you want
compassion and you want kindness from
Hashem, so we got to behave that way
with others.
Strengthen yourself in that mid the
thing that you want for yourself. It's a
famous thing. You want people to be kind
to you, be kind to them. You want
friends, be a friend. But that's a it's
called mid. It's measure for measure.
It's a natural way that Hashem created
the world. You want Hashem's kindness.
You want Hashem's compassion.
Show kindness. Show compassion.
Strengthen yourself with that mida of
Hashem. And then you merit to have that
come through you.
And then you can trust in Hashem.
Absolutely.
If a person is one who does kindness, I
can be sure that Hashem is going to do
me kindness. It's a spiritual rule.
Even
if a person has many sins, he feels like
his s sins are too great to bear too
much. I have too I've I'm too distant
from him. Don't don't give up. Hope to
Hashem.
Hope that Hashem will give you and he'll
he'll have compassion on you.
Here's what we get to is explaining
says hope to people of Israel
even when there's so many sins it seems
like Israel is so far away we've done so
much wrong don't give up he can redeem
us from our sins
says right after that
has so much hope
we have so much potential
We can know that Hashem will save us
from our sins. He will redeem us from
our sins. And I say this again because I
it's hard not to think about it, but
sometimes it comes, how do we get
redeemed, right? When you redeem someone
captives, you got to pay.
When you redeem something from its
kaduca, you take off the holiness, you
got to pay the the the money becomes
holy that you pay for it.
Redemption always implies that there's
some payment for it.
And so we can look at our our pain in
our situation today, let's say, and we
can say, "Oh my, what what did we do to
deserve
this difficulty? This pain is being
accused of genocide, ridiculous things.
The bin are being made into criminals,
thrown in jail.
What do we do to deserve this thing?"
But understand
that Israel as a whole individuals who
are expected to be on a higher level.
We've done wrong. We do wrong. We're not
perfect. We make mistakes. We're
sometimes distanced from Hashem.
And so, Hashem is py. He redeems us from
our sins, from our mistakes. And
sometimes there's a payment for it. And
we got to pay that. We got to be aware
of it and we have to look at it
properly. We have to have the proper
perspective on it. We have to know that
the things that are going on are for our
benefit. The negative situations we find
ourselves in are for our benefit. They
do make us greater. They do cleanse us
of what we've done wrong. The distance
that we have from Hashem, they bring us
closer to Hashem. They clean off our
ego, our hubris,
our
brings the
people of Israel, hope to Hashem. What
does it mean
again? hope to Hashem if your sin is
great
for his for for kindness is with him.
So he doesn't say explicitly what I was
saying, but it seems to be implied
that if there's so much
oppression am Israel is being oppressed.
We're being accused of things we haven't
done. We're being accused of being bad
guys.
The nations are pressuring Ami Israel by
saying we're going to recognize the
Palestinian state. There's so much it's
in this case an emotional and physical
danger.
understand that that pain, that
emotional pain, that physical pain
is a pigion. It's a redemption for us.
It raises us up. It lifts us up.
We become more connected to each other.
And Hashem also is going to redeem us
from the pain. The pain itself serves as
a redemption and will be redeemed from
the the the pain
says this
you now you hope to Hashem
and expect his salvation.
We have to it's it's very interesting.
We have to expect it. We have to believe
that it's coming. We're waiting for like
someone who's at the bus stop waiting
for the bus looking up on In Israel, we
have these uh these boards that have the
times when the when the bus is going to
come. So, you're looking and you're
waiting and maybe the bus will come
sooner. Maybe the bus will come. When is
it coming?
The salvation is on its way. We know it.
We're looking. We're looking up.
When you are expecting it, when you're
expecting the salvation, you are
preparing yourself to be from amongst
those who are saved.
Kindness is with him with
the says even if you might not be
completely fitting for this.
The kindness is with him.
The kindness of Hashem is that which
purifies you, brings about your merit to
be able to deserve it. Right? The word
is an interesting word. Is a merit.
That's what we talk about. You do a you
give it's a merit. They say
should merit to do to fulfill the
mitzvah the commandments. When you give
you are purifying yourself. It's not so
easy to give. I earn this money. I'm
going to give it to somebody else.
I purify myself.
Hashem's kindness purifies us. If we're
not properly loving each other, will
give us an opportunity sometimes of
challenge in order that we come back
into love with each other, back into a
relationship with each other.
Interesting. And he says it a little bit
differently. He says if you don't have
the merits, Hashem will do it out of
kindness. Right?
So first is I haven't necessarily done
enough to be in a relationship with
Hashem. That's one possible problem. Why
I don't deserve to be saved or I don't
deserve Hashem's help. Hashem will do
even though you haven't done enough
good.
And what about if I've done wrong?
That's the second stage. Even if I've
done sins,
Hashem can save me from my sins
themselves. Hashem can take away the
mistakes that I've made.
And it's not to say that we don't have
responsibility. We do. It's better that
we do chuva, right? We don't have to
have issurin. We don't have to have
difficulties. We could
acknowledge from our own accord, which
is difficult also. That's also user to
face the mistakes that I've made and say
I've made these mistakes and I don't
want them anymore
says the sworno.
What does it mean that there's so much
redemption that Hashem has for us?
If you're facing a situation where in a
natural way it's impossible for you to
get up again, it doesn't seem like
there'll ever be. There's a holocaust. 6
and a4 million Jews are killed. How will
this people ever rise up from the ashes?
It's not going to be too much longer
till the Jewish people have their own
country.
Just a few years later, they get up from
the ashes. They get up from the dust.
Hashem has so many ways of saving us, of
lifting us up. And in the past, the
Inquisition may have run us out of Spain
and Portugal and other places like that.
And we went to the next place and we
grew there.
We ran away from our troubles. And
Hashem made us great. He was ped us. He
redeemed us there.
brings here from the safe
is
what is the what is the sweet singer of
Israel?
What does he mean when he says oh people
of Israel hope to hem
means to say hope to
don't hope to Hashem that Hashem is
going to give you something that you
deserve.
Sometimes a person deserves to have
kindness from Hashem. Sometimes a person
is done right
and the person is a they're righteous
and they deserve to be helped.
But don't don't take it that way. Don't
receive Hashem's goodness
because you deserve it. It's better to
receive it because of Hashem's kindness.
There is no other
one in existence.
There's nobody that Hashem has created.
Of all of the creations, of all the
creatures in creation, the malum, the
angels, the heavenly bodies, the
celestial fe spheres, the animals, the
people, there's nobody like him that can
do kindness like he does kindness.
He's the only source of all goodness and
all kindnesses.
That's what it means. Kindness is with
him. Kindness is with Hashem. It means
to say that he's the only one with whom
kindness exists. Anyone else who has
kindness or does kindness is not in his
league as it were
that's why you should pray to him and to
no other.
So here he brings more from the which
we're going to read together.
says,
"See over there,
see there at length. We'll give you a
little piece of what he speaks about at
length is as follows."
All types of kindnesses
come from Hashem.
No other being can do the absolute type
of kindness that Hashem does.
You want to know who is the perfect the
perfect one who does the perfect
kindness? It has to be that that
kindness doer has four characteristics.
The first is that the one who's doing
the kindness can't change. Right? If
someone could change his mind or change
his being, so then he might want to do
comics with me today, but maybe not
tomorrow.
Hashem doesn't change.
The second aspect is you want somebody
who's not dependent on anybody else. You
want someone to give you a kindness, but
if he's dependent on someone else to
bring that kindness to you, so you don't
even know if the other person is going
to give it to him so he can give it to
you. So it has to be someone obviously
Hashem is that one who is not dependent
on anybody else to do kindness.
Third thing is very important that the
one who's giving has to be able to do
opposites. He has to be able to have
within himself the ability to have a
self-contradiction. What does that mean?
Let's say you need you need a favor from
a rich man, but you wronged that rich
man. You insulted that rich man, but you
need the favor.
It's it's going to be hard for the rich
man who you have wronged to do you a
favor. But Hashem doesn't have that
problem because Hashem, he is able to
contain contradictions.
He loves us despite the fact that we've
done wrong. He loves us even when we are
distant from him.
The fourth aspect is
that the person who's doing good, if you
want good from that person, there can't
be anyone who will stop him from doing
that that good. Otherwise, it's not
guaranteed they'll do it even if he
wants, even if he has the wherewithal.
But if someone can stop him, so then you
might not get the good. Obviously, no
one can stop Hashem.
When one being has all of these aspects,
all these characteristics,
and he wants to do good,
nothing can stop him. He's not missing
the ability. He doesn't care if you've
done wrong to him. It's not it's not
going to stop him. If you have
he's going to do that kindness. If you
have trust in him, he's going to do it.
You don't have to be worried that that
kindness won't get to you.
And once we can clearly see that the
only one who has all four of these
characteristics is Hashem.
So we see from here that the only one
that it's appropriate to request and
want kindness from is Hashem alone.
Thank you so much for listening. We'll
see you again next time.
