Our tradition calls this force the yetzer hara (the evil inclination). Its role is to challenge us so we can grow stronger. One of the ways it messes with us is by creating a false sense of closeness—using that feeling as bait to pull us off the true path. A healthy relationship brings you closer to who you are meant to be in the service of your Creator. An unhealthy one pulls you away from that. If something feels powerful but is taking you in the wrong direction, don’t just trust the feeling.
