The last Shabbos before Rosh Hashanah
and the Torah opens with these three
words, Atem Nitavim Kulchem. You are all
standing here today. Not the perfect
ones, not the ones who had an easy year.
Kulchem, all of you. Including the
broken ones, the struggling ones. The
ones who fought the same battle for the
hundredth time. The ones carrying
something right now that nobody in the
world knows about. You are still
standing. The Baal Shem Tov teaches that
the word Nitavim doesn't just mean
standing. It means standing firm,
rooted, unshaken. Not because the year
was easy, but because you are still here
despite the fact that it wasn't.
Vayeilech, and he went. On the last day
of his life, Moshe Rabbeinu got up and
went. [music] He kept moving. Not
because everything was resolved, but
because that is what we do. We stand and
then we go.
Hashem is not looking at your year and
asking why you fell. He's [music]
looking at the fact that you are
standing, Nitavim. Still here, still
reaching. And he is saying, Azi vezimrat
Kah.
I was your strength all along and I am
not not done with you yet. You are still
standing and have so much more to
accomplish.

you keep on moving.
