Joey used to Joey's driving the car
about I'm going to call Y is more of a
balagula I hear I hear you look like a
balagula taka that's the AV what do you
think I this is my side
a okay so fill me in haly good brother
Berry what what is this place Lev what's
the engine what's the this place is the
warmest place the mon these days it's a
home for
teens and they have a uh left te Center
at night where uh boys uh come and hang
out they have a little Shear you know
just a place where they get the warmth
they need so basically it's for that
have a extra large exactly as if that's
the way to put it exactly so tell me
brother Barry you grew up around here
this is no this is your hood I actually
see mon once mon is my you know I moved
out from
I grew up sh
theam
sh
really wow Mom is in the hood in the
bee I went to yiva in
Westchester and then to to St and then I
married in Monroe and then I moved to
mons wow okay so take me through the
Journey a little bit I was I always love
to sing uh I used to lock myself into uh
the laundry room the laundry room I my
studio that's great there a good good
Acoustics thing exactly I took a tape
recorder and I sang like songs really
wow so it was always in your heart any
specific mea story sticks out from your
childhood with regard to music with
regard to singing and and something I'll
tell you what I I used to sing as a as a
child um wasn't very in style to be a
Wonder child at the time um I used to my
father used to buy a lot of all these
tapes so I I I knew all of the songs I
was very into it uh my my father even
had
uh albumi album really that was a Lou so
I remember I was once in 8th grade and
we went to a trip to an
Intrepid um in trepid in trepid in the
city yeah yeah and and my my rebi he
wanted a you know tighten tighten the
ropes to make sure everybody's behaving
you know don't don't think that we're
going to inre you can smile now or
something
so he went through everybody's bags to
see what they brought along you know
what he called by me oh no he called by
me
gum okay gum chewing gum oh that was a
that's a problem that's a problem okay
and paper okay and he was upset about
that of course he took it out he's like
who's is this I'm like me left back put
me back to fifth grade what what would
you say was your favorite sour from that
album that you got in trouble for I I
remember G and as I was walking down to
the fifth grade I was
[Music]
singing Beautiful from they have the
when he went to
prison um so his were were going with
him so he
said Al even when I go in the in the in
the the in the shadow the
Valle I'm Not
Afraid the bad part of it
is that you're going along with
me always ask me like who's who's your
rabby mus music I say
uh
like how like how like because both sing
with their hearts with and that's that's
the key by me love that when I when I
put my whole n into
singing how's it how's it with you no
same thing same thing P yeah it have to
be it it's funny cuz when people ask me
who am I RAB of music I always say SCH
maaba and ab Rottenberg oh wow so you
know for me we grew up English speaking
and stuff like that so so but that was
so full of the sh wow what a and that's
what you got in trouble for exactly how
do you get trouble for such a Hal was
probably the
gum it was the sh of gum okay so this
was in P right wasn't
papaer yeah very nice so you went on
trips that was probably in the summer no
no the summer we went to the to the
country someone went to the country the
country is no trips no trips the
activity is you take take the r madim
takes a bag of Chen beans spread it out
in the Big Green Field I remember that
and go the scavenger oh go to g go to
gam go to look go look for beans go look
for the purple one was the most valuable
exactly I remember who ever found for
every cup you got one ticket and after
you got like five six tickets you wanted
to go a to win a
yo-yo not another the day to waste you
know the the F part Camp was that it was
a mic and it went to like they had like
three camps and in the 3 weeks um there
was there was no music so I would um I
would sing on the mic I remember singing
uh um alar from P you know that yeah of
course yeah that's a classic wow so okay
so you were singing already in youra in
Camp you were singing yeah but it like
like yeah so um but but I I didn't
consider myself as a singer or so on
like see everybody sings right
right let's get a
[Music]
rendition
[Music]
he so brother Barry how a old start
where did you start with music
H I don't know the previous G Gilgo it
could have started but at this Gil go uh
as a kid um I I I mean like you're
talking about in a professional yeah
certain level so you know so in Camp was
all fun and so on but um once I turned
like 910 I got approached by JJ freed he
was producing uh he was working together
I remember with uh Ding and with MBD and
so he started uh hooking me up with
these uh solos and albums various albums
as a kid as a kid okay one of the most
unique ones that I remember was uh I
sang on a Jep album I didn't even know
what Jep is at the time and um it was
Jeet 5 and there's a song of about the
Civ civer rebi yeah and the song is
about you know how he uh how he took
that song from a shepherd and and you
know and he turned it into a s
that that was on yes I'm singing I'm
singing that once they finish a song
they like the I'm singing as kid I'm
singing that
verse you know the
song you know the words
wow oh this is not going to make it up
the hill no this is wow that's pretty
wild I got to go back and hear that
album Now je five what would come after
that what was the next but once I once I
got my hat on I was
13 shop was closed done forget never
happened why is that let that was you
know that was the policy of the father I
think it was a smart move okay um
because you know I he wanted me to to
realize that um you know as a kid I
don't know you know what I don't know he
had his thing and I respect that once I
got older um I didn't even consider
singing although when I was in Israel
and I learned the mirr I got my first
guitar in the Shar AI oh and um just
because I like The Humbling part of it
you got a for 20 sh how much is this
guitar how much I have I say 100 check
no go away and then I start walking
they're like okay b b b Bo
okay 150 I'm I'm like no no no no only
have 100 okay go go go go then I go he's
like okay come come under 20 and so on
and so on I made it to 50 shekels you
under I made he He was cursing me out I
got I got a guitar for 50 shekels I
decorated with n stickers oh wow and I
had a complete look I used to go every
Thursday night we used to go to covit we
used to sit there every Thursday night
and I would jam with my guitar I
remember I learned my first chords one
through three then I composed songs and
we used to sing there you know all night
until until went to I went to amazing I
didn't even know you compos songs you
compose songs brother of course of
course you know yeah of course yeah yeah
that's that's one of my songs was that
on your first album no that was on my
thank you thank
you
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
that's great wow great by the way
I see you were in The Vibes you were
groving already in N Ro yeah so we used
to sit around for br and comes up that's
where it all starts yeah okay that's
that's when I started I started
realizing you know what what what life
is about I mean I've been in Israel when
I was 13 14 but you know what living
there you know being a part of that of
that you know you know it's your
daytoday thing it just gives you a whole
new reality I really started getting a a
a sense of
pus um it was M the best for me to you
know before I got married you know later
I went to I got married in
Monroe
wow Monroe Monro curious y K it's funny
because when I got married I I didn't
pursue a career of singing like I didn't
see myself as a singer and I started
doing construction oh really wow you
know who my manager was Yi l
y in construction that is just greatness
but you got married in Monroe what did
you walk down to what's that what song
did you walk down
Thea but the 2008 crash came and it was
just no work
I stayed home and my wife told me about
a her friend's
husband that uh used to go after K used
to go at night like a studio that
someone had then they they did backup
vocals and they got paid $12 an hour
which was more than I got my
professional I was like what you get $12
an hour and all you need to do is sing
sign me
up this is a wild story ni I went down
there with my n guitar and they were
like
huh and guitar you can play and
sing like and the guy that you know the
guy who saw that you know I have some
uniqueness he uh called up naali schnit
which his friend got married okay and U
naali schnitzler actually wanted to
produce a singer so that's how I got
into my first album wow wow wow and uh
the song that I compos my first album is
aeim you know aeim yeah it's a song that
I was basically Longing To You Know
right right it's a beautiful song it's
beautiful song Somebody told me he
thinks it's bigger than than Reb I'm not
sure about that huh I see them oh is it
really in a sense it's
[Music]
deeper
oh
takes you takes you very deep takes you
very
[Music]
deep me
gu
[Music]
oh me gu
[Music]
m is
fire brother Barry you mentioned that
you had n stickers on your right I don't
know if that's mgal or anything but I
want to know when did you get into
the when did you get into that when was
that so that's a good question but you
know what I'll ask you first I realize
your payis is going acled the other way
other way
so you're aware of that of course I'm
aware of that I always my entire life I
had to be different so I was like but
I'm going to make the I just you're the
you just realized I just realized this
Wow first time I went to bre of is when
I uh the they the rash before I got
engaged um whole funny
story andan you know thanks
to
um and uh when I when I when I got
married I lived in Monroe so over there
I went I DED by my yeah um but then when
I moved to M I didn't have a sh way to D
so my wife suggested maybe the first you
know you always had a dream to go to to
um after you know you know so may said
that my wife yeah my wife helped me with
that and since then I always went wow
so so you know what's the first TI how
how how does
start starts with that
that Inon where it says yeah that's what
I'm saying Inon that
that that was
from of
so for me was you know was getting into
more so you have a song
[Applause]
[Music]
about you know the old C they have like
this switch that make the car go up and
down you don't have
that
[Music]
if I had to guess this is your most
famous
s uh in a
sense yes I would you know between this
and Reb probably and Y but Reb Reb
really like span for a long time like it
really got into the hearts of people
still me yeah yeah I mean in my sense
you know I think it's it's like a slow
thank you Hashem song you know when I
did thank you Hashem um 8 years ago I
didn't he song it didn't really take off
it wasn't the time right right right and
then you came with that thank you Hashem
thingy and hasm is like you know what
now's the time we got to get the lfish
as well so we did in a slow crying song
you know you know that you say in the in
the Milla there's uh in the Milla
there's this uh part where they
you know why have also
have so they're like
not can we depend oh
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
yeah
[Music]
fore
[Music]
say
[Music]
oh
[Applause]
man he good brother Barry Mish that was
something that was that was that was
something special that's a song that
goes into
your it goes into your soul
yeah talking about getting into people's
Souls going I bring it on behalf of Amud
Amud what do you say what do you say
what do you have to say about how Amud
impacted the world and how it affects
amazing because amudam is the pole you
know it's it's the we finish with the
pole
of and has uh two sides to it and we
need to be Ming the to elevate it and uh
amudim is doing that you know we're
going to people who really need it and
uh the Mish Mish they giving him a new
chance of life it's a new chance of life
because when when a person has
a place that he fell down he he feels
lost he's
like we
we is you know we always find AEM when
we're up there you know that's where we
feel comfortable but when we're down
there we feel like we went away but it's
not true we went we fell into hem and
most people get lost there and theid is
to find HM down there is
helping that's
how bringing everybody back
[Music]
together everybody with with his down
and his up you got to bring everything
like a big present and then we can all
[Music]
dark just need a little light we need
Messiah m is bringing the light of Mia
helping helping need a little light we
need a little
[Music]
light
so there's another song there's another
song that I forgot which album it is but
Kad you brought that back it was a
Hal yeah it was on the thank you
Hashem album song Thank You Hashem album
so you're the founder of thank you hasem
you started it before it even started
well the founder is
uh but really I got inspired by harav I
was very into listening to the toy ofish
Blazer bro used to interpret English he
would always say thank you remember then
was I mean mean being that I'm a idish
speaking guy thank youm wasun like thank
you thank youm so we took it as a
mission was a whole group of people and
um so I I named my album thank AEM but
um it wasn't the time it wasn't the time
but uh but I'm glad that uh eventually
you know you blew it out of the
park you put the you put planted the
seeds you planted the everybody
everybody plants another seed another
seed until you know until mhia is going
to finalize the real thank you hasem but
the kabat song was also you know I I I I
couldn't the beginning I didn't connect
to it I remember it came in like two
weeks before my album was out really and
uh my my album was already in the mix
and this guy suggested the song and I
was like e I'm not feeling it and then
he's like if you're not taking it then
you know I'm using for someone else I
like yeah it's that good wow he like
yeah I'm like okay so let's go snuck
into the and then like blew out of the
[Music]
park oh really wow memory Lan right
there that we're going in circles right
we're going in circles I'm so sorry I
guess this is why it's your side
job I don't understand you needed to go
here the shiners yeah shiva's right
there so why don't you just walk because
I'ma sha doesn't
walk wow now I've heard it all I want to
ride with you I hear now that's a good
reason wow so we're at shiners my whole
life I wanted to go to shiners you know
that yeah you know there's free soup
over here is there really yeah I always
heard about shin I want to go into
shiners for Brank see what's going on
over there should we walk in sh yeah
let's go of course hey look at
shiners okay ah this was fun who needs a
Tesla yeah I know I'm an hour late I
know I was just riding with Joey Joey's
my my right you go the shiners like this
of course that's the whole idea of
shiners only shiners is that you don't
have to
[Music]
