Welcome back Rabbi Dr. Alazar Brat. We are ready for a new episode on a topic related to Sed Kachim and his and the history of how the came to write. as we know he wrote and spoke a lot about being ready for the gula and we are so ready Yeshua. So this episode has been dedicated in memory of Rabbi Br's wife's grandparents and he gave me the honor of mentioning their names and the names are Isaac Beno Ysef and Brian Loas. It's been dedicated anonymously by a grandchild. And without further ado, Rabbi Brat take us back into the history of where and when was talking about and interacting with people and what eventually led to the >> Okay. So, by way of introduction, the is someone beyond our comprehension. He's simply remarkable. When one tries to understand what he accomplished and the ways he did it, I think I think many did not begin to comprehend what he was doing in his lifetime. And I feel that even today many still do not begin to appreciate him. But that's another story. Today I'd like to focus on his work with learning kachim or is deep into about to finish and we're about to begin. Simply put, I want to map out today how he went ahead and created a revolution in this area. Now this is part of my general series about some episodes are behind the payw wall some will not be behind the payw wall. This one was sponsored so it's not. So now one key source in general about always that I always am fond of using is from his sonlib. So over here this son who was born in 1861 he gives us a lot of information about the story. He was very very involved with this project in different aspects as we'll see. So we have something very unique. It's not common to have so much data into the backstory of creation of a safer and and a project in general. Many we have this and whatever and we wish we knew the backstory why they wrote it, what motivated them and different aspects involved with the creation of the project. Historians actually dream about this to have such information to understand various works. Instead they're forced to speculate a lot of times or try to come up with theories and stuff like that. But here we are to have what a lot of information firsthand information. Now most of the recent stuff written in the books on they don't really add much ever since what Rebl wrote um hopefully I will do add some new um possibilities into the story now in an interesting conversation between and his father he records as follows it seems when was young he was interested in doing and to do it in a he was he was asking so to speak and was not too happy about it and told him that his way of doing things was a whole different way. And this is recorded in the Dugma of um in in the the workma ai um also written by him. And he says over there that I feel that the best way to do something for the is not to be is is more about I write I find out that there's a cause and then I go ahead and do it and then it comes so and his lion was now he throws in that it's a whole story when is one what's called that's anti but the point is felt um that the the printed word his at least his printed word not everyone's printed word is going to be the same is very important so he wants to make he's we're going to see exactly how this happens over here he sees that a change is necessary in the focus um a new area of learning area of learning is being neglected and he wants to change that so he's going to go ahead and go ahead and calculating weigh how he does all to change that now when research until he's about 65 70 when his first wife dies in 1903 pretty much he's actively working on various projects of his most notably the Mishna Bur but also this project he he was not found for example writing chuvas or getting involved with the various issues at the time he did have a yeshiva but he still managed to focus more about his projects shortly after when his wife his first wife dies that's when you see a decline much more in his writings around then a few a little after that is when he finishes his mission his massive undertaking project. And then from that time period and onwards, he doesn't really devote his into um writing. He's already pretty he's not he's not a youngster anymore. He's in his he's almost 70 years old now. So [clears throat] what happens? How why did the even get involved with Kachim to Okay, obviously he's a cayenne. So the story goes like this. In the 1890s gets a letter from his father says um um now we don't have the exact letter but this is what records um pretty much what happens he at that time 1890 1891 the the Jews in Russia had a terrible so there was a big movement to come and people were coming were buying lands and all these types of So um he gets a he gets a letter and says that that there's a great to to make aliyah and use it seems use the so now really we should make we should buy um land but we can't right now. So we can only do what we could do really. We should build we should be concerned about building the B. Now he says like this we really we davin every day at least a few times in Janess we're focusing on the the and everything should be returned but if you don't know anything about kachim this great deep seder of kachim says um what's going to be um he says just like the ram in his time went and was was to to you know he wrote about kachum so he says I decided my son we have to learn kachum I'm going I'm going to start with with which is the beginning. It's very hard and I'm going to learn itis and Rambam very carefully and I'm going to take and I'm going to do the take out focus on the sugass um similar to the style of the riff and rush and other sudarim and I'm going to put together such a work. I'm going to explain it pitser just like the tour does with the rush and this is what my project's going to be. Therefore um that will have people will know what the now he he says like this I want you to um get involved with this project also and the and the plan was that would also be involved he at this timel was not learning he was not living at home he was married he was living elsewhere but they'll be they'll have some way how they'll be in communication so he says like this I was says about himself my father was a zor I was not such a zor and um I clutching was hard for me. It was I was not from you know my gears of the yankas so to speak. So I didn't get to do it so much but my father he right away jumped into the task and he was working full-fledged on. Now he learned this him not only he didn't learn this himself he it seems he he learned it with possibly one of his son-in-laws and also the younger of one of the children one of the sons of who was crazy into but he was ill already at the time. was and the two of them they spent a lot of time um working on this work and eventually it's finished. So this is in the early 1890s um the work is finished. Now normally the would publish after he finished the work he would publish it right away. Here he doesn't. Now then it seems what his what there was a discussion what should be the title of the safer um held that should be kachim um his father didn't like that name because it's going to be too similar to the riff he felt that's not it's problematic so he said we'll call he sends it out to a few different and they they praise it they give many asamas we'll see the names shortly and what happens is he says uncharacteristically my father sent it to a bunch of he had a bunch of and I don't know what was the reason but he said my father was and we're going to see why says I'm going to explain to you shortly what was it turns out my father was right in getting many so this is the first part of the story so basically it's linking it to what's going on in the 1890s it's really that's full-fledged the movement before it becomes misrai movement And there's a major inspiration to move to Israel and the the zerus and cl is terrible. Russia is not the place to be and they're trying to see for the future. So is practical. We need to know what to do. Um um this when the bas is going to come. No one's been learning Kachum for a while now. Fine. So this is this is um point number one that writes out very clearly in the book. Now meanwhile doesn't only just focus the as I said was somehow was able to be a major multitasker. So he's still continuing full-fledged in his MishnaBuer, he's working on his Mishb. Okay. Now was aware that when one wants to put out a safer um and you want to make a it's not good enough to just um you know claim okay I have to learn and whatever and he doesn't even put out yet as we'll see. So what what I would like to show is like this. He he wanted to make sure that his is going to be is going to is going to it's going to take off. So first what does he do? He is concerned and he goes ahead to learn to put out this work which is going to help people learn and understand the the the fine. What else does he do? So he realizes it's not enough if he's going to have his so to speak or going to say we don't have any meat we don't have any material. So the kaf goes ahead and tracks down various on that are kachum related and he goes ahead and he and he publishes them. He raises funds to publish them and um nashel he was aware that there's a shasar on yuma in vnma he gets it and publishes it. He is a he finds out about the old works on Kachchum which we discussed in the episode on so he goes and he gets those for example the kachum was not around for a long time all these farum he goes and he publishes it basically making it that now a bach is not or anyone's not going to be able to explain sorry complain that we don't have the materials to learn kachch that's another um nuda that he makes sure to focus on when he's when he's doing it. Another um aspect is he um he has to get people to learn it. So he creates a kay the kachim ka interestingly enough when does become even a tal of his? It's only in in these later years and you say well is his own man in the 30s and then somehow he finds out and then he gets very into very close but what's connection he's learning in the also ends up becomes a close of the he's a happens to be also again in the that has created so he didn't just create the materials himself to help the tools himself to do it he also tracks down the earlier and he creates a mukum to learn it. Now, not only does he do that when people were around when people would come to him, especially Kahanim, he would encourage them that they should learn Kachchum one um in the fascinating autobiography from Nazir who knew the he lived in that area and he um was well. So before he was leaving in around 1915, which is later on now is a so the um encourages him. He writes in his last meeting to make sure to learn kachum and he tells him about um the significance and we have we that you have to know it. So basically is that he he he he um he goes out to encourage other people and other people um I think I read that altzer also was encouraged to to kum through. So the point is that he reaches out to other people. Another person who was very involved with his projects with in general was his great son-in-law um what's his Aaron Hakayen also besides for assisting his in the various projects including in running the yeshiva and stuff like that he also puts out two works on called which we'll also discuss. So the point is he goes ahead and he he he knows all the issues what's going to be. So he makes sure in all different ways how to make sure that this movement that he's going to create is going to be successful. And the most important thing is he writes up a bunch of times and it's published a bunch of places the importance the great importance of learning kachum and this he writes in um various introductions in the lutus and and more than that he um he eventually publishes a beautiful mimer um called mimer which I feel is it's beautiful essay while Dafi is learning kachum for people to go through to understand all the different reasons why one should learn kachum which we will go through briefly shortly so basically he doesn't he doesn't just like come up with the idea he does it he he comes up with all the different ways how to do it and in this argu in the m you could see he knows what people are going to say well I don't want to learn kachim he preempts all this oh it's not going to be lish we could see that he has eight with that and he makes sure to get the rear materials and everything. So he's basically a aware of what's going to be the complaint and he goes ahead and um and he does it now. Okay. So this is briefly um the the background of the work. So first what happens like this I said the already zakim is published in so first of all in it's interesting is that we've discussed in the episodes that um with the mishnaba people discuss who wrote the mishnaba and they bring fromlade that thelade helped him and other people helped him all different conversations who's the author of the mishnab we we devote we devoted a whole episode about that we find something very interesting in the sh it says um that not only did I write it but it was a now different times it was different people. Soakim he gives major to his son who's a tremendous who died tragically very young [cough] um and he has of his in in Mishnab also who he was involved with the project and invim the son was invol now who who did most of the work on so there's a special page it says this who according from he's the author or one of the main authors of that so here the point is that these volumes make words to spell out across the board in he's doing it with his his sons or his son-in-laws or maybe some other people also. Okay. Now when one opens up the um so he said the son says he made sure to get a bunch of asamas. What what what does that mean? So if you open up a Mishna brew there's a few asamas here he has as lashel a beautiful asama from the marsham going from galitzia he gets from the pyiaf he gets a um a beautiful asama from his good friend um deris he has from the he has from another good friend of his zundul hutner author of the kav and he has a few other beautiful asamas and each one of them um uh write about him very you know very nicely. The marsham even sends him back some harus about it and he answers back those harus. And but now these these hashamas are appear to be gotten already in the later part of the 1890s and but he the first volume is published in 1899 and it takes a very long time till he completes it because he expands the project of lutas not only kachchum but kachum related topics and then topics that there's no riff which we'll see more about soon. So the point is that that everyone's praises the work you know that he's doing so much for Kachchal some of the people mention um you know he's already that he's already you know his his works are all um this is going in the 1890s and this is yet another work of his that does such a thing now there's one huskama that's a very lengthy huskama from Dadas now Dadas had a special relationship with Rufk book. Um there's even a whole write up where the deris published he didn't publish he wrote up um I think they spent the shabas together and a bunch of the conversations that he had with to write up the every time he met a gud or spoke with he would keep notes of everything and and a lot of some of the stuff in more recent years has been published plenty more waiting to be published so conversations and stuff like that um so they spent time together but they were in contact and everything and seemed asked for now um I already mentioned in the episode on I believe that Taderas at a young age completed um Kachim he was biol but um here interesting he quotes in his a piece from his son-in-law and it's published by in he didn't take it out no one took it out in later years in the later editions of but there's a that pe that they bring from Rafuk's son that really Raf Cook wrote the whole asama. I find it hard to believe um I don't necessar the the sources are not the greatest for this that it's really the cook wrote notes but Rafuk and did have a close relationship part of it actually plays out because of Lima Kachum where asuk also was a kay and he also believed in this cause of to make a about especially for kahhan but even not for kahhan that kachum has to be started to be learned so anyway so already and the authorship those are also um conversations that are [clears throat] that are important when one is discussing um the safer now does it so I mentioned that that the sonlib says that something's going on over here my father got more husk than he normally does is there any explanation for that so interesting is like this there's two there's two parts to this story. There's two, it seems, at least two parts to the story. One part is that at one point, it seems got a letter from someone and this person complained to him about the publishing of the uh publishing of the what you're doing over here. And part of it had to do with that which was a common there was an issue at that time So at that time there were people that made something was called a kiter of the felt is too much for the for the kid to learn. So they're going to make a kiter and this was this was not really accepted by many people. They were very very upset about it. Um many and this is its own story exactly all the different aspects of the story. It's not for this episode but the point is at this time there was such a thing going on. So the this letter that receives in 19 um 1901 from someone is like how could you go ahead and publish it you is is is you know give them proof because they wanted to um take out different parts and make it easier and so you're doing a similar type of thing when you're doing this for gar okay you could you could you one way or the other it's not necessarily um is it a you know such a valid but he wrote such a letter to now. But it turns out there was even more to the story. Um, and that was what Reb Lee was alluding to and that is that in 1873 the Reder put out on Tyrus the Cidray Tyrus. Okay, it was a whole tuml getting asama, not getting asama. You got various asamas from different gadima. It's a big big tuml and then all of a sudden at a certain point in time it turns into a massive controversy and what the story the whole controversy is um is not for now. One day I hope to give an episode where it actually relates to a completely different sug which was somehow the kfu which was a massive and kal many different times and it links into their somehow but for our purposes is people that the was very associated with which we'll see but sorry not the villag was associated with um as we'll see soon were involved in coming out against the raziner's cid tyrus. So the had to preempt that. So to show that this is not the same thing. Now what happened with cidyus is he made he was malakid from the garus and everything and created such a thing. So someone might think oh it's a gamarra someone's making up a new gamarra maybe it's problematic. What could be the problem? Is there any problems behind it? And this was a don. So was concerned. He knew what's going on. He he knew such a thing. He didn't want someone to say, "Oh, you you're doing something similar to what the Sidri Tyrus did for Tyrus, and if the came out against this, they're going to come out against you." So waited, he didn't rush to print his safer, and he carefully put it out, and he made sure to get a bunch of asus also. And part of it was possibly after he got as he wanted to hear, you know, to see maybe that controversy died down, which it possibly did. So he also didn't he didn't want not only didn't he want to get his project the into problems but he didn't want um he didn't want to have that his whole cause of kachcham would get messed up. So he was very careful that's why he didn't rush to do it even though let's say probably in 1893 1894 it sounds like at least vakam was ready but he didn't rush to do it he did it slowly. So he was a very careful person and he also had his he had his uh plate full so to speak. He's busy working on his Mishnaba um which is a massive project and he's it takes a lot of his and it's not so easy funding that was also a remarkable thing was able to pull off that he was able to get all these um out in his lifetime fine bottom line is that he creates this thing thing and one other aspect in the from over here that relates to us is in there's a lot of not only does have on the side says there's a lot of there. So asked why did you have more of a because if you look in some of the later volumes it doesn't have so much he said also because I wanted to get people into it. So I had to show them that you could to get the bal the london so to speak to see that there's there's what to do over here. Um so I had to put in stuff because the had a which which I mentioned in a different episode not all his that he came up with did he feel it needs to be published. So the is not all the tyra when he learned to suggest for 28 years with his son and his other they came up with tons of stuff they they if you look at the mishnab it's based on a crazy amount of material. So the answer is is that he even he also had plenty what to say there but he didn't want to he's not putting in everything but he wanted to make it that it should you know at least that the the so to speak shouldn't say there's nothing to say. So therefore he goes ahead and puts in his into it and works and and he puts in more this is what he tells his um this is what he tells. Okay. Now as I mentioned that one of the so um one of the the things that happens in here is that his son-in-law Rab Aaron who also gets very involved in in in this project of of he puts out a beautiful work called it's eventually it's two volumes he ends up getting terra so this work also um has beautiful um now had come from and so too does the I forgot to mention but also has from from again the the of the of the who one day I will devote episode to and gives a beautiful it's interesting is that the does not have from the and over here in the of the he says aud why forget about the aspects that we're going to see that the um brings up in in his essay and in his different but you you need to know in order to pass it. Okay. So this is points this out he has a beautiful introduction again from his father-in-law but this is again saying over ideas from the that are found in this essay which we're going to quote and then he has another thing um um another essay from that gave him and then he in his he has all different pieces of materials including materials from the a bunch of times. So basically this safer also helped spread the ideas further because it's it's a similar style and um if let's say someone wants to learn the carbonis posit what's the bottom lines you know this is a great say for zabir and as I'm um as in recent years arts grow translated this into English um and kitser so he puts this out it's two in these two volumes so this also was helping cause to help spread's message in getting limited. Okay. So, so this is um some of the aspects. Now, this son-in-law ends up having a lot to do with Rafuk and Rafuk. [cough] There's even letters published in the volume called because where it traces the whole relationship between this son-in-law who makes the who meets Rafuk and everything. I think maybe if Cook even helped him get and they um and he he actually they publish over here from manuscript letters that wrote to the on the on the zul that people would had took in um he's writing this to he's reporting to um his about it. Okay. So those are interesting historical documents that are found in the bishn. Okay. So, so far um the so here's part of the story of the and and anticipating opposition all the different ways how he goes about doing it. Now, one other also sold his he was he didn't just he was involved in the publishing and he was involved in the selling. we find even in certain letters where he tells the different people that asked him sometimes oh I have a long list this is farm I have says out yeah this buy it you want is the prices you don't have to buy it and here's all my that published on kach so we have even some of these letters that are published showing so so basically is when he's coming up with a campaign you know today we have the internet so you have to get the word out there's different ways you know you have to make sure you get the right influencer or pay for advertising here it's here. He was trying in every possible way to get the word out on the importance of learning kach. As a matter of fact, there's even a article um um advertisement I came across from his son-in-law in the newspapers taking out that yeah volume came out from the is 1912 that one of the son-in-laws puts this out in the newspapers and you should buy the that put out because that's also very important for Kachim and it has a beer from which is also a very good um good beer which was another thing that made sure to get and he found that his manuscripts are so he went and he and he made sure to publish that So here we have the in all different aspects. Okay. So now basically we have just um four more small parts. Part number one isuk. So 193 I said already they have a relationship. So 1935 um shortly after before he publishes an essay about how amazing he is. And um point is you can see from this essay also I think that that that they still didn't fully grasp what this person did for Yiddish at that time. Today you say that what the Mishna but it's pretty much true and and oft says he wrote 40 and all the different things and one of the is that this concept of Yeshua um of being making Tyrus Kachum available to learn um publishing and then on the other aspects making on other parts putting out a riff like safer um and he publishes over 40 and so Cook also emphasizes this thing and Rif book was a and they also learned by America's um okay so that's number one number two is like this so he the whole time I'm talking about it and I say that I really believe um it's worthwhile to learn carefully which is the so here he basically I'm just going to go through very very quickly some of the points over here he basically has 10 chapters pretty much explaining why one should learn kachum and so first he says famous thing that everyone always hears the we're going to learn more about it which is that so he goes through that whole um um and he says like this he says that um you should run after it you should um if you if in the times of B mikdash if you had an ability to bring a carbon you would do anything to bring a carbon if you didn't have vera here you have someone does something wrong [cough] learn the carbonus that's what that's part of the story over here um he talks about this and he and um had a beautiful lion he was able to focus um also for the masses it wasn't only you know just for the so this essay is very well written but the point is when you learn it he says it's and if you're being and if you're being so therefore not only should be learning it but everyone should be learning learning it because there's a importance of learning the kach. This is one aspect. Another aspect he deals with is why um that sadly it wasn't over the over the centuries it wasn't learned but he says that he brings from various quotes in the racial the importance of that that it should be learned and um now this links into the um if let's say there's kru there's there's krugum on on a person learning the kbanis will help in all these aspects um um um with the various kamaras being aarus and this now he says like this of course he knows that people are going to say they don't want to learn it. Um you know there's not what to learn over here. He says no it's very important there's plenty what to learn. He anticipates I said many times already they anticipates you know what the yeshiva is going to claim that there's nothing what to learn. There's it's it's mameshuk. Now another concept which we found there's a concept in many places is something like this that if let's say there's there's um there's a inion to do as many all the mitz you could. So the problem is we're in this mind that there's no bas. So there's many mitzvah that we're not able to do. So what's the way how to do it one of the ways is you learn it. So so that is another aspect which he brings um quoting mutes also in in in kachum about this that there's an aspect you can't do certain many of the mitzvah but there's an Indian to do as many of the 630 mitz that there are out there. So one of the ways is to learn them. So that's another aspect of learning them. He says there's a yates a lot of times that um you only want to do what other people are doing. So since people are not learning kachum so that's why you don't want to learn kachum. So you shouldn't let this yates talk to you and convince you not to learn. Um he throws out there something which I mentioned numerous times. There's a safe da to there's an Indian a special to learn areas that are that are not being learned. So he brings those which he showed a bunch of times kvski was very into and this was what motivated him in certain of his to write up about areas that other people um didn't learn. Another thing is he says we spend a lot of time we learn different you know they're being mourished few is a wholeish so that's what there's so much to be a wholeish to on this wholeish it's not to learn it and to not to learn it properly to be mic in it um so he also throws that out there um there's also numerous other quotes but um that that is kadai. Let me just see if there was one or two others but but bottom line is you you get a deep aana in um inra and that's another bonus in the whole story. Um now of course part of the the campaign was it's it's the gula. So he has a whole about that how learning um helps be of the gula and this [snorts] is something that's a very important focus and this there's a whole par about Yeshua and all that. Now then he um and and then hold on one second and Kadua one of the gar one of the most famous garamas that they you're asked a few questions when you get up to Shamay and see peace Yeshua. So this is a very easy way so to speak in how to in how to be mim it's by learning it and showing um um this aspect. Now he also throws in the point that I mentioned earlier from but so the point is that he in this which I said um many times already that it's to learn very carefully he throws out a bunch of different um extremely well written and I just mentioned just very very briefly some some of those points to show the the great importance of learning kachum and various reasons why one should and of course it is a very he says um the the the the mus of kachchum and furthermore um it's it it has additional reasons why one should learn it. Okay. So now so adh um um now just have two more small points and that and that's it. Point number one is like this. So at this point it sounds like you know basically what happens is in 1890 1891 the mass of what's going on and then um the gula and all these type of issues and and this sparks him and especially being a cen and multiple reasons you know it's area of ty that no one learned for for centuries so he want he wants to he creates a map with it and how he goes about doing it but he eventually expands I told you lutus ends up being the final volume of lutas ends up being published in 1922 And when one looks at the later volumes of you'll see that there's materials from Shabas um now not all of it is Kachum related. A lot of it is Kachum. What happens is as I said was ish that he was focused on and he had his pulse on everyone not only the the the but everyone and he writes out in a fascinating to that ends up being published in that there's another reason besides for all the kachum aspects is like this you're going to come up to you have to know but a regular yid how are you going to come to know shas not only that to say Tyrus which ends up if you everything it's over 3,000 blocks something like that. So only basically could um accomplish this. You know, I'm not sure if he wrote this when already had begun or around then and where he and he obviously didn't anticipate it was going to be what it is today. But the point is is there any said yeah and that is how did the masses learn? They didn't have there weren't so many of learning for the masses. What did they learn? They learned riff. So says and that's a much easier way because you get the bottom line you get the you don't have the whole shak of the and this is the great significance of learning riff and this is what he did he shows us and then he brings a gal piece as I said was we'll see how much in a moment and the was very into learning riff each day with rashi to get of each says that's my goal in these so there's even another whole story nothing to do with the kachchum aspect but I'm finishing karakula aspect kachchum is very hard but even not the kachchum parts I'm going to make a the any part of shast that doesn't have a riff like work so now you could learn those areas so he goes ahead and he completes all areas where there's no riff and this is he's creating an additional in how aid focusing on the the how aid could know when he gets to the shim at least the bottom line what to know and this links to this Now it's interesting is like this um and that's what leads us to the next point not it's not so famous not so well known is tied to VNA he grows up in VNA and he spends his first early years in the city of Vna and in in recent years um um piecing it together turns out that he has a lot to do with aid paris who is a yid from Galitzia who ends up in VNA becomes a very famous person in VNA and this opens up a K and in this K is a yeshiva headed by Rebecc and ends up learning about this Rebecca Bright and he has a lot to do with Paris. Some people even say that he saved him from the mascul. Now for me is the son-in-law of Zal Margolus but tragically Margolus his daughter dies young. So he ends up going from Galitzia to Vna. So this parents was a tremendous but he's a wealthy person. So he becomes a very hush of a person in the city of Villna and so he opens up a now he one of the things is in his he taught riff every day is in this he heard possibly. So that's another thing that might have sparked his riff interest. Anyways, right and this base marish also there was another that was also affiliated with this marish and that is the the darian of these son of the previous of famous for writing the book told us. Sov is named after and um he becomes the maggot of for many years. Now in those days to be a mag wasn't that you just were a good speaker. You have to be a massive was a just to give a just a drop of understanding is when there was a fight in [snorts] who was brought in to be on the bezdon to make and to come to the things the mag of so this is not no he was not a slouch he gave many for him and for many years we didn't know much about him except that he was the famous maggot of one of in recent years they discovered a manuscript often that he gave anyway so we we it's very helpful understanding a lot of aspects of at the time. Um, not too many people use this following. It's called Russia. Anyway, turns out that Ra Aba who was his father's good friend and Fel already created a thing in Vilna which was they learned that they made basically we know when you open up there's something called Mad and the story of the Mad is its own fascinating story which we will touch on a little bit at a different point in time learns but the point was that um they created a matzv ins once a month to have people saying mad. They would take off to do like a and learn the whole day and they would say them and they were published in a special um that they said and at one point the description is there was over 200 people that took off and were saying were sitting in talent and film after still learn and what they would say to and they would even learn kachum in one account the older brother of gir and kachum at this point in time. Now this is all affiliated with this whole um base medish of paris with bright possibly bride also but definitely and as they said which these are people hung out with this is he knew this was going on in vill is going on for a while in vill um it was published a bunch of times these mad and the point is that so early on they were Isaac in this so you See already early on in vna in the times of when was young there was such a thing to learn kachum now was a he also was concerned about it they also learned kach and it was a focus in the mad not only just to say the words it's about understanding it which its own para in the story of learning kbanus and saying kbanus is it's not just to say it it's properly it's to have the proper kavanas it's brought down and this is its own story of when we say kabanus every day it's not just enough to just to say it it's you have to have kavana which I I will touch more upon that I um hope in the episode on on Tammed. But the point is that in VNA this is what was going on for years um for many years there there was again not thousands of people but a nice amount of people through the times and they so they they had this thing that they were is at least once a month in the Kachum in Kachum type things and as a matter of fact in one of the places Reb Zev writes about the whole of the of learning Kachchum. So these are people's affiliated with. So already then you know he's a cayenne he's affiliated with these people he has to do with it. So probably he had it in his back burner um such a thing. Then all of a sudden in 1891 all this happens. So you know he realizes you know this is a a thing this is a theory of mine. Now there's a um there's others that they they try to make it in tying it into messianic type of things that that was what was going on in Ready VNA and showing with the GR and um the the messianic movement with the GR what he created and whatever. But all that is pretty much um not in my opinion is not really is is an incorrect reading of these documents of the materials of Zev in um all his theas that he gave over here when he writes it's not at all has nothing to do with that it's pash the concept of that always existed for centuries and that was to do the kashivas of carbanis um and and that's what's going on over here so the point is that there was a sort of a messy like thing in vn and it seems it was even going on after in the even in the early 1900s on some level. Um I just saw today somewhere that that it was being done at least in some of the places. So that's what might have helped with all this. The point is like this to conclude is the to conclude this and then just say one last point and learn I believe again maybe briskers will be upset at me to say such a thing and that they're the ones that did it but I think it needed the his whole efforts his whole making the materials available his campaigning about it for a bunch of years the essays that he put out they published them multiple places multiple times is what got the into today you could see I'm I I remember a few two years ago some brisk bakam were visiting here and they started telling me I didn't even know that the world of brisk which I knew about when I was a bak and you know about it much more than me um it's you it's it's much much bigger than ever was there's much more yeshivas that are branched out about it there's hundreds of bakham learning it kachum is being learned on a greater scale than ever was braal which is not totally in brisk there's tons of people learning um kachum there's even Ian dikillion that comes out um very very very often with tons of materials relating to kachum. So kachum is being learned in the world today much more than it ever was centuries. So I believe gets a lot of that credit. Now one last thing to conclude is is once he does he puts out the he does once um I I heard was once giving a thing about the he said we don't find the says any other in other areas other than let's say with but if one um looks at in the work of the we do find um two famous things of one is about shaving was very into the topic of shaving very anti-shaving in Mak he talks about it over here in the another famous which is its own shar is about the for when women could learn he changed the whole thing which eventually ties into the movement this is also found in the famous thing about when about eating has a piece in back of one and just to conclude inus um in the beginning ofus he says about learning the maka So he brings down that if someone feels that they should learn they should stay up if they did something that they think is carus and then he brings down like this um you should learn um you should learn these suggest let's say in yam time yam time um he's quot he quotes he basically quotes the Indian to learn so it's an extra bonus when you learn the maka ofus besides everything else just to conclude and all these different aspects. So if you open up he says what's that work that work is the work published in vna in the 1830s that I'm referring to which was part of the movement to say the materials of the so this is some of the story behind and kachim his etc etc Thank you very much. Wow. Fascinating. Fascinating. Okay. Very very appropriate for sedum that learning [snorts] appropriate for anybody whether they're learning to kacham or not. Thank you. And it should be an ilama for your wife's grandparents and again for the anonymous sponsor and looking forward to upcoming episodes.
