my name is Alex Libman I'm standing here
by Lake caros aljo by the amphitheater
where I plan to uh sleep tonight right
on the stage of the Lakewood
amphitheater in violation of uh the
ordinances that were passed in this town
that uh were essentially essentially
intended to Outlaw homelessness and to
drive the homeless people out elsewhere
passing the book to uh other
municipalities or other layers of
government and uh so I'm deliberately
confronting and violating the those laws
because I believe they are
unconstitutional they are inhumane and
uh there are better ways to solve the
problem of homelessness like uh the
example of 10th City we had it wasn't
perfect but it could have been made a
lot better if the government had
cooperated with us it uh wasn't costing
taxpayers anything except trash pickup
it was on land that's not supposed to be
developed and U you know now some
homeless people that lived in pen City
just a fraction of them were given motel
rooms at the great expense of the
taxpayers which I believe is unfair to
taxpayers and uh you know some fraction
of the homeless lefts on their own and
some of them are doing what I'm doing
which is uh you know sleeping on the
streets except they're doing it in
hiding because you know they can't uh
get arrested so I'm uh I'm making a
statement by sleeping in places like the
Lakewood toown square or the Ampitheater
here to uh make a point that uh you know
the the issue of homelessness is not
going away you know bulldozing Tent City
gets homeless people out of sight but
not you know they still exist and it's
not a good solution for anybody not for
the taxpayers not for uh Public Health
not for public safety not for anybody so
I think that uh we need uh you know uh
solutions that are cost effective that
are Humane that respect the rights and
freedoms of the homeless and uh that is
very important because you know that's
how tyranny always begins with the most
able you know the first some of the
first people to be put in concentration
camps in Nazi Germany were the homeless
you know our butt mck fry and uh you
know that that's where it begins we uh
have to find a solution to homelessness
other than incarceration and other than
the current welfare state which uh you
know if you add up all government
spending for in the name of the poor it
adds up to
$62,000 per family below the poverty
line year so obviously the welfare state
is not working we need uh more cost
effective more Humane voluntary charity
Solutions and uh you know I believe 10
cities are the way forward and so right
now we're starting something called the
10 City movement it will have
independent chapters in uh every County
starting with Ocean County and now we
have a second one in Monmouth County and
uh we're launching a petition drive to
petition the uh County Freeholder
to uh you know come to allocate just a
little bit of land you know they have a
lot of so-called public land that is not
being used for anything just to allocate
uh some land for a you know a well
organized well regulated safe place
where homeless people can camp and uh
not be arrested and that would be good
for everybody thank you for listening
