Address of Rav Yoshe Ber Soloveitchik - Chunich Atzmai Dinner 1956
This is the full speech delivered by Rav Yoshe Ber Soloveitchik z"tl at the 1956 Chinuch Atzmai Dinner. The presentation about that event can be found here: https://youtu.be/_Jn0y9_8mKc That video was conceived as a tribute to Irving Bunim’s contribution to the development of Torah in America and Israel. The 1956 Chinuch Atzmai dinner typifies his strength, his style and leadership. He was a major force in the development of the Young Israel movement, Vaad Hatzalah, Rabbi Jacob Joseph School and Beth Medrash Govoha. He was by far the most popular speaker of his time. His work on Pirkei Avos, Ethics From Sinai, is a classic on Jewish thought. This historic dinner centered on Rav Aaron Kotler and Rav Yosef Dov Soloveitchik. Mr. Stephen Klein, as co-chairman, was the primary force in organizing this first major dinner for Torah in America. The event was attended by over 800 people, which, in today’s context, would be the equivalent of approximately 5,000 participants. During the appeal, Irving Bunim directed his remarks towards the extraordinary achievement of Mr. Zev Wolfson. The world of Torah, today, rests on the foundation that these exceptional leaders established many decades ago.
