Across Communities, Residents Voice Anger Over Empire Blvd Shelter

Please, I'm begging you. All right, my name is Shahana Bernard. I have lived in the community for 55 years in the same house. I heard project renewal mentioned that they have shelters in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Bronx. I did not hear Green to Staten Island. Hold on. I ALSO HEARD WHAT Crystal Hudson said about the need for shelters and everyone is going to get them. So, why can't we start with those communities that do not have shelters? I also heard what Rita Joseph said about community engagement and fair share. But with my situation, I have yet to hear from her office or receive any concrete help yet from her. Why is New York City rebuilding and reopening all deteriorating men's shelters in East Flatbush, which is example is called non-vital Brooklyn. Just across the street from me, they're building seven buildings. Three are shelters. Y'all don't know about that. Look it up. Vital Brooklyn, it's three shelters. Men's shelters being rebuilt. It's going to be a Micah shelter. Mentally ill and chemically addicted. Okay? AND A SENIOR SHELTER. HOW CAN YOU PUT A SENIOR shelter with men's shelter and mentally ill and CHEMICALLY ADDICTED? WE DON'T HAVE TIME FOR ME TO EVEN EXPLAIN WHAT WE ALREADY DEAL WITH, OKAY? But example, that non-vital Brooklyn project is actually supported by Brian Cunningham. He supports this, okay? And he's supporting this shelter. But what kills me is he's opposing the one around the corner FROM HIS OFFICE. BUT HE'S HE'S APPROVING THE ONE THAT'S IN two family homes. SO, YOUR OFFICE THAT YOU'RE THERE FOR 8 HOURS, YOU'RE YOU'RE OPPOSING TO LOOK GOOD CUZ IT'S election year. But he's okay with putting it in our area, in two three family homes, okay? Now, there is also a state project being built in Creedmoor. That there I said now I heard from community board and all the city councils that it's a state project. Y'all know I'm not going to stop. I don't care. I'm going to talk. Okay, they said they No, just let me speak. Let me Don't do that. They Okay, they said Creedmoor is building Creedmoor's assemblymen and their city council helped them reduce it by 850 units, people. They helped them. Okay? You know what? So, this is further proof that not only the city's crapping on us, but also our elected officials are picking and choosing what they want to support. I HOPE AFTER THIS THEY WILL CONTACT ME TO HELP. HOW DOES DHS NOW, this is my question. How does DHS measure fair share placement across New York City? But, I want to know how can they rebuild They're rebuilding shelters in Brooklyn, but they're closing shelters in Manhattan. Do y'all see that? Okay, so how is it that you measure shelter placement across New York City?
