I did two stints in Lebanon in the
security zone at an observation post
that we maintained. There were 14 of us.
All the terrain up there was considered
hisbollah controlled. We had artillery
support and air support. We were on high
alert. We couldn't take our shoes off if
you were changing your socks. Hey, I'm
changing my socks. We had about enough
water to take a shower once a week. It
was just very operational. And then we
were up there for 4 months. And there
was an American kid there. He begged me
to put on to fillin. And I had these to
fill in from when I was bar mitzvah, but
my synagogue didn't even teach us how to
put it on. So this guy like begged me to
put it on. I was like, "Was he Labavich
by any chance?" and he begged me,
"Please just put on tip to fill and say
the shama and take it off. It'll take
you 2 minutes. Please just do that for
me. I'll sleep better at night." And
then and after a while, I'm like, "I'm
not going to stop. If it ain't broke,
I'm not going to try and fix it. I'm
going to keep doing it." I just kept
doing it. When I joined the Marine
Corps, I told the guys, "Hey, wake me up
10 minutes early. Tiger might fill in.
