Six years ago, my wife comes home from
Shul and she said she met with a lady in
Shu who was completely broken [music]
and she explains to her that just
yesterday her younger sister came over
to introduce her fianceé [music] Ananju
and she was completely broken. Didn't
know what to say to her younger [music]
sister and just gave her a hug. My wife
gave her a big hug in return and they
parted ways. That next Tuesday, my wife
gets a call from this lady and she says
with an ecstatic [music]
voice, "You'll never guess what
happened." My younger sister called me
to say that she [music] broke off the
engagement. And do you want to know why?
She came to my house that air of shabas
and she walks into a house that was
beautiful, a beautiful shabas table with
dishes and with silverware and with
glasses. And she smelled the kala. She
smelled the ch. She smelled the k. She
saw my kids running around, showering,
bathing, getting ready for Shabas. She
saw the most beautiful Shabas home, the
most beautiful Jewish family. [music]
And she said to herself that night, I
want to raise a family like this. I want
to have a house that has a shabas like
[music] this.
And she broke off the engagement. And
the lady goes on to explain to my wife
the incredible hashka.
She says, "I [music] never set the table
early. I always wait for my husband to
go to shul Friday night [music] and set
the table. This was the first time I set
the shabas table early. And you want to
know why? I was having a guest a rub
coming to my house. So I set the table
not only early but I used all my dishes.
I never used my dishes, all my dishes,
all my dishes, all my silverware, all my
glasses. I made it [music] look like the
most beautiful shabas table in the
world. And [clears throat] this was the
[music] Shabas that my sister decided to
come up. And when she saw the Shabas
table and when she saw this Yiddisha
family, she knew that this is what she
wanted for. The kadusha of Shabas has
such an ability [music] to change a
person's perspective. Such an ability to
inspire a person to do the right thing.
Such an ability to reconnect this
[music] and to Yiddish. That's the power
of shamas.
