A Shirah Chadashah Born From Hindsight

The opening verse of the Shira is Az Yashir Moshe as Rashi asks the obvious kasha and that is Yashir is lashon assid. What it should have said was Az Shar Moshe. Truth is if you look at the Ramban and you look at other Rishonim they don't understand Rashi's tmeah. This is poetry. This is a Shira. We said the whole Shira is grammatically >> [snorts] >> a little different than what you would expect. This is bothering Rashi. I mean Rashi says everything is kfula, there's extra mems, vavs, and yuds throughout the Shira. So now if you have something that was supposed to be in the lashon of instead it's in the lashon assid, I don't know if that's makam to go ahead and be motzi a pasuk midei pshuta. Az Yashir would be as if it would have said Az Shar. But Rashi's not happy with that. And Rashi says to me Az Yashir has to be referring to something very very nuanced. That is Az Yashir Moshe in the Medrash is that this is a remez that at some point in the future Moshe are going to sing Shira again. Amru Razal from here we learn a remez the Priyas Yam Suf I saw in the Shiurim from Rav Meir Soloveitchik. So he said that he asked the Brisker Rav that why is it that Az Yashir Moshe as a Shira Azois. So of course it's a Shira Azois. Which Shira do you think it was? Az Yashir Moshe Yisrael the Shira of Devorah that's mentioned in Navi. Right, which other Shira would it be? It's the Shira Azois that we're about to say. We just went through 19 pesukim of Shira. So of course this is the Shira. So the Brisker Rav told Rav Meir "Vos zogst du?" Right, sounds like you have a teretz. Vos vilste zagen? He said because Rashi says remez Priyas Yam Suf so really there's a remez here to another Shira that one day the Yidden are going to sing. Which Shira are they going to sing? As a Shira Azois. That's why the Torah had to say Shira Azois. It's not for the Az Shar Moshe that's obviously as a Shira Azois. But it's for the Az Yashir Moshe. So not only remez Priyas Yam Suf that at some point in the future Klal Yisrael is going to sing a Shira. Az Yashir Moshe as a Shira Azois. You want to know which Shira they're going to sing? They're going to sing literally this Shira. Az Shir LaHashem Ki Goah Goah Sus V'Rochvo Ramah V'Yam. This Shira goofa they're going to and that's why we had to mention as Shira Azois. Chanukas HaBayis of what? His summer home? No, Chanukas HaBayis means the Beis HaMikdash. Now to be fair Dovid HaMelech never built the Beis HaMikdash. HaMelech built the Beis HaMikdash. But like so much of Tehillim this is a nevuah something that's being said B'Ruach HaKodesh. So Dovid HaMelech is praising about something that's going to take place in the future. But Mizmor Shir Chanukas HaBayis L'Dovid poshut. If you go [snorts] through the perek what's going on? I Remimcha Hashem Ki Didisaani V'Lo Sisamachta Alai. Hashem Elokai Shiv'asaiach V'Siterpaeini. Hashem He'elisa Min She'ol Nafshi Chiyisaani MiYordei Vor. Right, he's talking about how his life was in a very challenging place. He was dealing with a very very big nisayon. And saved him from that nisayon. I Remimcha Hashem Ki Didisaani. I Remimcha I'm going to praise you because you took me out of some mess that I was in. V'Lo Sisamachta Alai and you didn't let your my enemies laugh at me. Hashem Elokai Shiv'asaiach. I once called out to you you gave me a refuah. Sounds like Dovid HaMelech was a choleh. And at the time that he was a choleh he davened to Hashem and he was to refuah sheleima. Hashem He'elisa Min She'ol Nafshi. My life was in She'ol. I felt like my life wasn't even worth living. I felt like I was in Gehennom in this world. But He'elisa Min She'ol Nafshi. Chiyisaani you gave me chiyus MiYordei Vor. And this is the theme of the entire right from misped you took my machalei to machalei. Right, you turned it into a life of joy. Pitachta Saki. You opened up my sack. Look here what Mizmor Shir Chanukas HaBayis L'Dovid should be all about Chanukas HaBayis. Why is Dovid HaMelech going back through his life and talking about all the tzaros and all the difficult things that he had and now at this time giving them all shoutouts. So Reb Zalman Meltzer in the Hakdama to Even HaEzel Kotchin Beis. So this is a Kotchin Digger Even HaEzel. He asks this kasha and he says such a davar nefela. He said Dovid HaMelech I'm using a little poetic license here. Was singing Shira for the fact that he was going to be zocheh to lay the cornerstone of what ultimately would be the Beis HaMikdash. And at that time he was so overwhelmed with gratitude and hakaras hatov for what he was zocheh to. And he started going back and thinking about his life a little bit. And he said think about what I had to overcome to get to this point. There was a time I was a choleh. There was a time where I felt like my life was in She'ol. There was a time I felt I was living in a bor. There was a time I was walking around carrying a proverbial sack. But you saved me through everything. He'elisa Min She'ol Nafshi. Chiyisaani MiYordei Vor. I was a choleh V'Siterpaeini. I was wearing a sack and you took that Simcha. My misped turned into all of a sudden I'm playing music. And Dovid HaMelech he went through his life and he started giving hakaras hatov. And he started thanking Hashem. Dovid HaMelech when he was zocheh to a refuah he thanked Hashem. When Dovid HaMelech came out of the She'ol and the bor he thanked Hashem. When Dovid HaMelech's life turned from misped to machol he thanked Hashem. When it went from Pitachta Saki to Simcha he thanked Hashem. Of course you think Dovid HaMelech didn't have kavana when he said those days? You think he didn't compose a psalm when those things happened? Of course he did. >> [laughter] >> But now when Dovid HaMelech saw what his life amounted to what he saw what he was zocheh to it was in him that I have to have even more hakaras hatov for what happened. Because had I died from that illness or had I remained in that bor had I still been there carrying my sackcloth I would have never come to this. At the time I thanked Hashem for giving me my life back. I'm not a choleh. But now I have to thank you so much more because look at what I came to. And he understood that Mizmor Shir Chanukas HaBayis is a whole new hakaras hatov. I have to go back to everything that happened in my life and I have to thank Hashem again because now I was zocheh to walk children down to the chuppah. Now I was zocheh to see Yiddishe Nachas. Now I'm being zocheh to see all these things. Things that who know I didn't think I would ever be zocheh to see. So when he reached milestones in his life he would chazer over all the trials and the tribulations that he had and he would go ahead and he would be makir tov to Hashem. So Reb Zalman Auerbach said that when the Yidden crossed the Yam Suf they sang Shira to Hashem. They sang Shira "Wow we were zocheh to such a miracle." But when it's going to be the days of Moshiach and it's going to be Ki Meitzeis Mitzrayim and they're going they're going to see that Hashem will clearly and the mikveh of Hashem on a level that they didn't even see then. They're going to go back and they're going to say to themselves, "Could you imagine had we never left Mitzrayim? Had you Can you imagine if we were still in the parada? Could you imagine had the krias Yam Suf not happened? Not only would we have not been to that day, we wouldn't have been to this day. And for the fact that right now all of a sudden they saw what they became because of Israel. It was a new shira. Not just the shira on what happened then, but it was a shira on all the things that they needed to get through in order to get to this point. Oz yashir Moshe when there's going to be krias Yam Suf when it's going to be loshon lovoi. When the world is going to see the tachlis of klal Yisrael. When we're going to see what we were created for and what we were to. We're going to look back at our lives and we're going to thank Hashem for every single thing that happened along the way. Oz yashir Moshe Yisrael shira l'Hashem. Now they were singing shira because of what they were to now. But then they're going to sing shira again on the krias Yam Suf what they're going to be to then because they're going to have then that were not for what happened now they would have never gotten to that point. And this is like what this is always said the way has to be A person has to be throughout his life. A person can be 80 years old he has to remember what happened when he was 16 and when he was 24 and when he was 37. All those obstacles that came along the way. Every time a person has a a something is going on in his life it's a new to for all the issues that he had throughout his lifetime. If you would hear David inauguration speech it would have been literally it would have been literally a story of David life. And then this happened and that happened because now that he came to become David now he had an extra level of appreciation. That's what Israel is going to do loshon lovoi. That's oz yashir Moshe. We're going to sing this song. It's going to be a shira chadasha all over again.
