he Torah commands us to count the days from Pesach to Shavuos. We call this Sefirat HaOmer. Yet the name is puzzling. The Omer was a one-time barley offering brought in the temple on the second day of Pesach. Why define this entire period of counting by a one-time korban? Wouldn’t it be more precise to call it: “The Count to Shavuos?”
