>> Okay, here's offering number three. You
may be sorry that you continue to tune
in for this one, but once you're here,
don't go anywhere. It's like this. You
know, I've been talking about this for
years and I slip it in whenever I can. I
don't know, maybe even every day.
And for some reason, I'm the only guy
who hasn't spoken about this now. So, if
you can't beat him, join him. But let me
speak around the context of the
balaturator and something I want to I
want to mention to you.
The balaturator says on the parag
I gave this shir maybe 12 years ago. I
called it how to destroy the Jewish
people from the comfort of your own
shaw. I don't know if you remember it
even how to destroy the Jewish people
from the comfort of your own. I think I
gave in the young Israel of kugar hills
back in the day. The says in the
says about that which praises Hashem is
a glory for him. That's what it means.
However, the says
if you talk in
they call
they will surround your body with
thorns.
Okay, by the way that's something that's
better it's better to avoid that. It's
better to avoid better to avoid being
tortured in this world. So therefore the
B is saying don't talk in shul because
otherwise they surround your body with
thorns. Okay, we know about that. Nobody
talks in shul anymore. We've been, you
know, all people always ask, "Really? No
one's allowed to talk in sh?" No, it's
not so strict. Only if your mother is
Jewish. If your mother's Jewish, you
can't talk in the show. So, no, it's not
that it's not mamish for everyone. But
the recently uh I' I've been on a
campaign about phones in the shaw.
Phones do not belong in a sh. People
say, "Where where does it say that?
Where does it say that?" The day that
God gave you a brain and he gave you
common sense
and he gave us a mitzvah to pray to him
and the mitzvah of ding is with all your
heart. You tell me someone who has a
phone on them and is giving all of their
attention to the ding. I know that even
if you just hold a sitter without a
phone, it's still hard to give all your
attention. But at least you're making an
attempt. If you have your phone on you,
then 17% of your brain is dedicated to
WhatsApp.
14% of your brain is dedicated to text.
16% of your brain is dedicated to phone
calls. And we're not going to talk about
all the rest of the brain that's
dedicated to the other things you could
do on your phone. So that's why am I
talking about it now? Because I don't
want to get one more text or email about
the following two things. So, I'm just
going to say it now and then we could
put it to rest. Number one, I don't
know. I am not a journalist. I don't I
do not I did not investigate what
happened to those guys in Qatar, what
their state is. Did they get them? Did
they not get them? But I will tell you
that I've received countless messages
that they were not there at the time
because they had to go davin. They had
minion and they left their phones in the
room and they didn't daven with their
phones. And I got numerous messages that
even those guys are protected when they
don't have their phones on them. So even
though at first I was not going to, you
know, I don't like to do uh generic,
everybody's, you know, jumping all over
that, but I got enough messages that if
I don't uh at least throw this in, it's
going to be like, "You didn't know that.
You didn't know that." Yeah, I I did
hear. I I did not I was not able to do
my own independent research on that. But
if that's what people are talking about,
you could be sure that whatever happens
in this world is for says in that even
whatever happens in this world is for
Israel. Even a ship that goes from Spain
to
Gallaya is only blessed because of the
Jewish people. Everything that happens
in the world is because of Jewish
people. And if it's on the international
stage that these guys were saved because
they don't have their phone on them,
then you could be sure that the in the
shamayim they want to remind us about
how important that is at this time. And
that's something we spoke about for many
many years. My humble suggestion is if
you accept upon yourself this year not
to bring your phone in shul that will be
the best decision you ever made in your
life. I'm sure you made other maybe I'm
sure you married uh Kasha Rabbitson or
you have uh you have made good decisions
in your life. This will be among the top
ones. But here's what I would like to
do. I'm telling you something personally
this year and uh I'm I'm I'm sharing it
with you for your consideration
because
um this this uh American a proud
American
who tragically
was gunned down in the prime of his
life. someone who spoke up for values,
was proud of the American way, uh stood
up for the morality of the Bible in a
very upstanding and respectable way. And
it's tragic to see someone murdered in
the course of his debate and in the
course of standing up for for morality
and ethics. It's it's tragic. It's
tragic. This is what our country has
come to. But he was someone who
he was not a Sabbath observant Jew, but
he actually
turned off his phone every Friday night
for 24 hours
and the media couldn't get him and all
of his fans couldn't communicate with
him and all of the outlets couldn't
communicate with him. He was not
communicable for 24 hours. He did not
have a phone and he actually he learned
it from the Bible. The Bible says
to spend with his family. And by the
way, this is another thing that's uh a
lot of people are speaking about, you
know, of of his many admirable
qualities.
This is something that he promoted. He
said uh you know his wife said that he
needed the mental reset.
You know think about think about how
good it feels after a two-day yamtiff or
especially a three-day yumptiff not to
have a phone. You know it's it's good
for your mental health. Everybody knows
it's good for your mental health. So
besides not having the phone by uh
Davening,
I find it um very distracting when I
have it on me when I learn. And I'm just
telling you personally because we're
close. I hope this year at least a good
chunk of the time not to have it on me
during learning. I find it very
distracting. I find it takes away from
my focus. So, I think these are things
that we should focus on, especially in
light of these two events that happened
this week. I can't tell you again how
accurate that report is on Qatar, but
this is definitely what people are
talking about. So, it means it's
something we should think about and the
technology that we have today is a is a
tool. No question. And it's a powerful
tool and it has
you know I'm not uh burying my head in
the sand. It has many powerful benefits.
There's no question many benefits even
of Tyra and I'm the first to acknowledge
that and at the same time it is
extremely distracting. There needs to be
time in the day you know that you that
you're able to pull away. And if you do
that, it just creates a much healthier
relationship with these tools. Not every
tool is meant to use at all times. You
know, uh the tongue is also a tool, but
it's not meant to use always. Anyway,
that's
where the says that it is a great um
glory to Hashem to praise him provided
that we uh we conduct ourselves
appropriately. and the bases.
Okay, I have one more thing that I want
to do.
