Okay, good Shabbos everyone. Good to see
everybody. Hope everybody is doing well.
I could just ask if everyone could
kindly mute their
devices.
So good Shabbos and good Rosh Chodesh.
Good Shabbos and Rosh Chodesh. Before we
begin, I suggest if you have a few
moments, please listen to the share
Wednesday night about the amazing fusion
of Shabbos and Rosh Chodesh and we
explained how Shabbos and Rosh Chodesh
is not just Shabbos plus Rosh Chodesh
but actually fuses together to create
quite a unique Yom Tov. So I just want
to share with you really very briefly
just a few minutes.
Just some thoughts about Chodesh Iyar.
It's brought in the Seforim. The Bnei
Yissachar discusses it. Rav Tzadok
HaKohen quoting the Sefer Yetzirah that
the month of Iyar is created with the
letter Vav.
Every month was created with a different
Ois and the month of Iyar was created
with the letter Vav. Interestingly, in
Melachim Aleph Perek Vav Pasuk Aleph
the month of Iyar is called Chodesh Ziv.
Chodesh Ziv and that actually has a lot
of significance because the month of
Sivan
the Sefer Yetzirah says was created with
the letter Zayin.
So the month of Iyar is a Vav, the month
of Sivan is a Zayin and together it's
Chodesh Ziv meaning it's the Hachana for
Sivan. Meaning Chodesh Iyar is the
Hachana for Kabbalas HaTorah.
But it's of great significance that the
month of Iyar was created with the
letter Vav because we know the role of a
Vav
is a Vav is a Vav HaChibur. It connects.
Because the month of Nissan is the Rosh.
Reishon Hu LaChodesh HaShanah. It's the
beginning of the year. It's the head of
the year. It's the beginning of the
year. The origin of the year.
The month of Sivan on the other hand is
the giving of the Torah. It's the heart
of the year. It's the Lev of the year.
Chochmah is in the Lev.
What connects? You always need a
connection between your heart and your
head. Your head and your heart have to
be connected. The Rosh and the Lev are
connected with the Vav, with the Tzavar,
with the Vav HaChibur that's the month
of Iyar. Iyar connects the beginning to
the Lev, to the heart.
So this is a central month because we
know the Simanei Chiyus, the signs of
life are in the neck. The neck, the
month of Iyar is the is the month of
life. It connects the head to the heart.
What's very interesting is if you look
in the authentic Tachanun
when I say authentic Tachanun I mean the
Tachanun of the Sefardim.
Ashkenazim
much to your chagrin actually never say
Tachanun ever ever ever. We never say
Tachanun. Tachanun is Perek
Chaf Vav is the authentic Tachanun.
And
excuse me, not Chaf Vav.
But LeDovid Hashem Nafshi Essa which is
Perek Chaf Hey of Tehillim which is what
the Sefardim say which is actually the
Halachic Tachanun and Ashkenazim avoid
it because we're afraid of the Kelalah
of the Zohar that anyone who says
Tachanun without Kavana it's bad news.
So instead we opt to say a different
Perek and by saying this other Perek we
never incur the Kelalah because we never
say Tachanun. We'll never say Tachanun
without Kavana because
because we never say Tachanun. Instead
we say Perek Vav which is certainly of
note.
Because if you look in the authentic
Tachanun Perek Chaf Hey LeDovid Hashem
Nafshi Essa it goes by the Aleph Beis
and the Zohar asks every single letter
of the Aleph Beis is represented.
There's a Pasuk for Aleph, a Pasuk for
Beis, a Pasuk for Gimel and there's no
Pasuk for Vav. The letter Vav is
omitted.
And the Zohar HaKadosh says that's
right. You know why the letter Vav is
omitted? Because the letter Vav stands
for the Eitz HaChaim. The Vav is the
tree of life.
And in Tachanun the objective of
Tachanun is to say and articulate that
you would be Moser Nefesh Al Kiddush
Hashem. So since the purpose of
Tachanun, which by the way this is the
month of Tachanun. Nissan there's not
too much Tachanun. Sivan also not a ton
of Tachanun. Iyar is the month of
Tachanun.
So the month the letter Vav does not
appear in Perek Chaf Hey because the
letter Vav represents life.
The tree of life. And in Tachanun you're
Moser Nefesh Al Kiddush Hashem. To me
it's ironic that the Ashkenazim say for
Tachanun Perek Vav. Can you imagine?
Instead of saying Perek Chaf Hey that
has no Vav we say Perek Vav of Tehillim.
But in any event we learn from here that
the letter Vav is the letter of life.
And therefore if the month of Iyar was
created with the letter Vav that means
Iyar is a month of life.
And in fact we find in many Mekoros that
the greatest month of Refuah of the
whole year is the month of Iyar. For
example
The Gemara says Kol HaShakyanim, any
elixirs, any liquids that you drink are
always healthy between Pesach and
Shavuos.
I believe the Chasam Sofer quotes this
Gemara to show the medicinal properties
of the month of Iyar because it says the
Gemara says any liquid that you drink
between Pesach and Shavuos are healthy.
This says the Chasam Sofer shows the
medicinal properties of the month of
Iyar. In fact, the Chasam Sofer writes
and this is brought in the Sefer Shaarei
Yissachar of the Munkatcher that the
word Iyar stands of course for Ani
Hashem Rofecha. I am Hashem your doctor.
And you know there's there things that
we need Hashem to be our doctor because
as Ribono Shel Olam has given us great
Shluchim in this world and health care
practitioners and medical doctors
there's so much that we don't know and
there's so much we have to rely only on
Hashem for. So Baruch Hashem it's the
right month for that. Iyar is the month
of medicine. Iyar is the month of the
the medication from Shamayim, the Refuah
from heaven. Ani Hashem Rofecha.
And the Bnei Yissachar explains why is
it historically that the month of Iyar
is such a month of Refuah? So the Bnei
Yissachar writes that the Mann came down
for the first time on in the month of
Iyar. Some even say Lag BaOmer, some say
three days earlier but whenever it was
it was certainly in the month of Iyar.
And says the Bnei Yissachar we know that
all Refuah really comes through the
proper Achilah.
Illness comes through inadequate
Achilah, improper Achilah Achilah that
does not nourish and does not sustain us
and Refuah also comes through the proper
Achilah. So since we know that the Mann
was pure nutrition. It did not produce
any
Tzoya. It did not produce any Nothing
had to be excreted from the Mann. The
Mann was pure hydration and nutrition.
And since the Mann came along and all
the the Cholaim were Nisrapei from the
Mann in preparation for Kabbalas HaTorah
so every year in the Zman of Iyar it is
programmed into this time of the year
that it is a time of great Refuah and
it's a time of a Segulah for Refuah. And
therefore Ribono Shel Olam we want to
say created with the letter Vav because
the letter Vav is the Ois HaChaim.
Represents the Eitz HaChaim. So we're
Mispallel
as we approach
Rosh Chodesh Iyar. Today is Rosh Chodesh
but we haven't yet begun the month of
Iyar. We hope that this month should
bring Refuos for all of Klal Yisrael,
Refuos for all the Cholei Yisrael and
the Ribono Shel Olam should open up the
eyes of the world to to be able to
recognize the proper Refuos for this
Mageifah that we're facing.
And uh just like when Klal Yisrael were
Mekabel the Torah all the Cholaim were
Nisrapei. May the Ribono Shel Olam send
us all a Refuah this month. It should be
a Chodesh of Refuos, a Shabbos
Shemelitzik Refuah Kerovah LaVo Vi.
And I want to wish everyone a good
Shabbos and a good Rosh Chodesh. And
BeEzras Hashem only Bracha VeHatzlacha.
