Township Reorganization Meeting 2015 Highlights

oh s can you sing by the what so proudly we have at the Twilight last gleaming who brought stripes and bright stars through to the par or the ramp parts we watch were so gly streaming and the rockets red GL the bombs bursting in a pro through the that our flag was still there oh say do that star sple way for the land of the and the [Applause] Lakewood is one of the fastest growing and youngest communities in the nation and with that blessing comes many challenges therefore we pray that you continue to bless the members of the township committee the mayor and Deputy Mayor with the courage insight and sincerity to lead and guide the township of Lakewood that Lakewood continues to grow and prosper under their leadership and to that let us all say Amen I'm Michael De I'm Michael De to of people in the public they say it's the same faces and we keep doing the same things and the mayorip keeps changing and it's acrian it's Miller but I have to say it's really not because um the first two years that that um Deputy Mayor Miller was the mayor was very different than his last year as mayor and um I actually did not prepare a speech I'm really speaking from the heart here so I think I think Deputy Mayor Miller changed a lot every single year that I've been on the committee and he continues to grow I hope he feels the same way about me so we may not be changing the names but the people themselves continue to change I think for the better and I'd like to present this to the outgoing mayor I see you got a much nicer gavel than I get I got this big huge one you have this neat little classy one but you actually ordered it for yourself so don't thank [Applause] me this year commun now commit theia who till a few minutes ago or a few days ago was commissioner theia with a tremendous tremendous year of Serv tremendous years of service in a lifetime of service to town you look at the back wall he's actually hanging there um and and uh I am giving the layers on ship of course the mayor is giving the layers on ship but I ask that Mike get the layers on ship to the fire department because of his understanding of the fire department um I've had the opportunity to work with our two commissioners commissioner Lan commissioner Bradford and I'm going to miss working with you but don't forget my number please I'd love to continue to work with you uh when I'm needed but it is is my pleasure to give it to Mike who's a fantastic guy and I'm sure you guys are going to have a great deal of fun working with somebody who actually understands the fire department thank you mayor and uh we're always appreciative of the support that we receive from uh the tant committee um we interact constantly um between the board of fire Commissioners and the township committee and we always get uh uh the fullest cooperation that we could possibly ask for uh it's my privilege in the absence of our chairman uh who's in California at the moment uh to make a presentation to uh Mike deia um it is with uh some substantial regret that I do this uh because we're going to miss you Mike yes um Mike has been as as we said at our last meeting a mentor to so many people um not just on the board of fire Commissioners but within the fire department uh and within the township his knowledge uh is indispensable uh he grew up with the fire department I won't I won't make my usual joke about the fact that he came on when there were still horses around uh almost almost uh but certainly uh you have the the the knowledge of uh things that have gone on for the past half a century uh that you've served in the fire department together with your service previously here on the township committee um with the first aid and with so many other organizations within the township um we could almost call you Mr Lakewood uh we do have a a plaque that we are presenting uh it says in appreciation for all of your unselfish service given to the fire department and to the citizens of the township of lakwood presented by Lakewood Fire District number one and Lakewood volunteer fire department um that's for you and we also have a resolution um which is the formal resolution in which we accept with sincere regret uh your resignation from the board I know that you would have liked to serve continuously with us and we would like to have you but the law is the law uh and it also says that we commend you for your service and extend our best wishes for your forthcoming work as a member of the township committee and we know that will serve the fire department um and the citizens of the township well in your new capacity um looking out for our best interest any number of times Mike you've told me how most of the time the two of us agreed um we didn't agree at the beginning of this year when I said you're definitely going to win this election uh and you kept saying no I'm not so sure it might not turn out I said Mike there's nothing to worry about you've got it everybody in town loves you uh the board of fire commissioner loves you and we will continue to do so we hope that you come to our meetings um from time to time as the liaison and we will always be able to turn to you for the knowledge that you have thank you [Applause] again turn thank you for having me here today to swear you in it's it's always a pleasure to be in this in this hollow Chambers I know that former mayor Harrison and mayor work that are here today also feel the same it always inspires us to come here every year it's our our Township and we and we love it dearly uh to Mike Delia my dear friend it was a pleasure serving you with you before and I'm glad to see you back in that seat it was great seeing your brothers it's uh your family is part of Lakewood part of the heritage of Lakewood uh as we just t walking catching up I had the pleasure of working with your daughter Trish uh when I was on the governing body I still work with there on the UR Z Zone and of course your son who was a fireman like his dad is close to my son as a polic they they're lifelong friends um to Ray Ray this is old happen with you I you know uh you're getting to be an Old Timer here not the oldest anymore that's true but you got you got it down pretty Pat got it down pretty Pat R and as as in the past you do a great job of I had had the pleasure of serving with you and of course with mayor and and minach and uh and the only one I had to serve with is our new mayor but uh but I had pleasure of serving with all of you working congratulations to you and your family look forward to to working with you in this coming year to Mayor mayor I can be special with you because you know you're my wife's favorite uh you do you do such a great job helping the community out I can tell you there's never a time that I would call mayor's office that he's that he's dispatching at the same time he really is can do many things at one time he really is very devoted to the community I will tell tell you when we have a problem with someone in the community he's the first to volunteer to be part of that solving that problem and he works tirely on mayor thank you for a great job apprciate it major my my dear friend um it's it's always a pleasure seeing your lovely family here when you're swearing in uh you did a great job as mayor this past year you do a great job as deputy mayor uh and you're all over the place so you're the Energizer buddy you know uh there there's not a thing that's that's too difficult for you to do uh you help me out in many case is guiding me in directions I appreciate I appreciate the fine job do HED which means so much to our community HED provides Health Services to really thousands and thousands and thousands of our residents and you being part of that just makes that so easy and I appreciate you thank you and the family for a great work to do to Mayor aan I look forward to working with you your agenda has always been a very positive thing I will tell you uh you took the vot by the horns two years ago and saw that ten city was taking care of thank you you did an abstaining job on that and you carried it through um I know that your agenda is route nine this year I know what you at the helm we certainly will be be working on that uh following the footsteps of of Mayor Miller on that I know you''ll be carrying the torch on that I look forward to working with you know you're active you're involved and and little I don't know if everyone knows is but you're taking professional course of at ruers um and I compliment you on that uh you're making yourself a better elected official and that's an important aspect you're learning more about it and you're Shing that knowledge with us so congratulations on your position as mayor I know it's going to be an outstanding here thank you U lastly I'd be remissive I didn't say something about Steve seare someone came up to me before and says do you know Steve secare I said well he's the only member of the governing body that is on my wedding and he also knows my wife and she's a little girl as you don't know Steve was my uh father-in-law's law partner for many many years my father is retired now I know Steve very well congratulations Steve look forward to to working with you I know he does he did a great job for the 10 years that he was here when I was on the governing body I know do a great job again so to all of you thank you for the great job the professionals are great uh I had the uh honor of meeting your your interim administrator uh he's he has done Yan's job and his other jobs I know he's a great appointment for for interim right now he's going to help you find that permanent appointment I wish he'd stay permanent but uh that's not in his plans as he shared with me but but thank him for the great job and it's a pleasure seeing you new your new Township Clerk when I just met the first time for so thank you for everything wish you all a great year and know that my office is here hope you we can thank you [Applause]
