this is Deborah Lansky and welcome to
the raviolo ski show now as you know
there is a tradition on the rubbery Olaf
ski show dating back to 2019
we're on Shabbos Shira we have a musical
episode remember last year we had the
Australian kangaroos singing their song
about Shabbos and I helped them really
publicize and get out there because they
only had 50,000 views before they came
on my podcast and after that they had
about 51 so it was really on target so
we have a special musical treat view
this week and before I say anything else
we'll just stop let the music tell the
story and so replace I if you would
start us off with one number which I
think only has 1.2 million views and I'm
sure most of my audience has never heard
of it because most of my audience really
never leaves the house and the only
thing he ever watches me so voice I if
you will
[Music]

unbelievable all right so before we
continue I have to give a shout out to
my sponsor I just saw the musical
episode we should start right away with
some music so this episode is also
sponsored by the Chicago hazard fund in
honor of their third annual shots for
she'd open campaign we mentioned this
last week and it is so important we're
mentioning it again
- fraud is coming I was looking
for too much Freddie here but anyway
thank you very much for that musical cue
and it is a special school of toyrap and
and she don't hear much you know as R&B
Dima barrini etc when you plant in the
dark and the cold zone of edema in tears
so then you get to see everything
blossom and that's where there's exactly
six months from two b'shvat till tuba of
where you have the gula which is what -
bob is all about and it's also about she
don't look how it all ties to get some
people anyway so they have going to have
hundreds of low lung dim going to finish
the shots in 24 hours on to be shot as
the scores for clay is felt to find she
doe him the power of Lima de terre
on the day of DuPage shadow of his
money's who's him for singles looking to
find the perfect match according to the
Benishek I and others by sponsoring at
that for a hundred dollars adjust a
hundred dollars on behalf of a single
and I should have to say if the last
week already people have been putting in
because we all know about these problems
I haven't spoken enough about the sugar
crisis yet I was speaking about the
tuition crisis but we have lots of
crisis unfortunately what are you gonna
do is enough to keep us busy yeah but I
said we could break for a little music
yeah you can help harness the immense
Keynesian power of limited tire and
dubash right in this course all proceeds
from this project of shots for seed
oakum goes directly to the chicago has
said fund many should different projects
which include financial incentives for
shot on
those of us who deal with this you know
that to be able to get somebody to to
work on this is extremely important
financial support for girls in need
clothing makeup etc this you find in the
Gemara that a girl who who doesn't have
the money to be able to to go out yeah
it's it's a very question of a thing to
be able to get for them miles for
flights to out of town dates yeah out of
town is of course I'm talking about any
place outside of Brooklyn so you know
they have to come in face from Queens
New Jersey cause for Sean so you know
that they have to come in and forget
about Chicago and forget about you know
Detroit Minneapolis
you know Denver there's somebody so many
wonderful cities out there that have so
many wonderful people who are looking
for wonderful she Duke him that might be
in a different city mentoring and
coaching services for singles how
important there are certain people who
go out and they don't even realize why
they're not marketable and sometimes
they just need to to you know learn like
you know some basic skills to be able to
be more successful in life and what a
sad thing if that's what's holding them
back all of this and more is being done
by this to learn more visit shots for
she DoCoMo org sha s the number for Shi
DD u CH I am dot org to sponsor a DAF on
behalf of a single and if you don't have
a single immediately in mind trust me
there are plenty in Claysville who need
your support
okay so who do we have with us today is
that a question or a statement but the
try again hi would wherever this today
excellent we from uh I've heard of it
and you are from broccoli no I've heard
of it too and now you say I haven't had
you on before yeah never yeah go to a
game yard where lofts keys are very
common name but as it happens most you
who there is in fact my son
and thank you very much I had something
to do with that and my father's yard
site is coming up on your site in Swat
and Moshe hood of course was named for
him so that's a very special he they
gave him when shortly after he was born
my my daughter's came up with a name
oh-yo because my father his name was
Moshe I am so he's what if you do don't
call my Sh
so I was very careful to this day only
the calm Moshe Hooda and my kids felt
that was too long so they shortened it
to mayou so um I heard what name he'll
be performing under you guys gonna do
this professionally like go out onto the
circuit do concerts you know perform or
you guys gonna get like a real job and
do some of your lives well we at Lenny
Solomon on and he was an accountant he
gave that up to go into music full-time
and he felt that a coach broker gave him
a koa and he wanted to use it I mean you
guys are clearly extremely talented who
wrote this one talk to you my king
how what are you saying with this song
governing
that's it this is a diverting something
from me at least yeah beautiful and it
obviously reached a lot of people
obviously touched a lot of people now
all of you guys went to Waterbury high
school yeah right the music is
associated with I mean I've heard early
Kalish speak about um music on occasion
yeah what is the role that that plays in
the whole whatever experience which is
an experience obviously I think it's uh
whatever is a place to express and if
you're writing songs and you're singing
music you're expressing so they have a
lot in common then what if you have any
musical skills it was a disadvantage
they throw you out
very nice so now you guys are learning
in Israel and do you want someone to
give $100 to the shots Bushido camp you
guys know yet any soon soon ok so you
keep them in mind this doobies right all
right so you wrote songs too
no you just have an incredible voice and
you're able to I just think they credit
so that's it
trust what I've been doing that for most
of my life and it works great but you
the you artists also a couple of them
yeah song since I was young so I always
I remember started in the shower you
know just like in your head and then
like slowly I picked up an instrument so
I enjoy writing I would find that an
instrument in the shower especially if
it's electric is pray for her dangerous
situations alright so uh so what what
what song a you got you want to give to
the world know this there's thousands of
people who are watching this podcast I
could be many of them are new audience
to you I know that you only have like a
slightly over a million people watch you
guys but you know my my audience is
clearly much more discerning and
intelligent and dedicated than anybody
who listens to you guys we're gonna
expose you to the wider world and and
from this trust me after that hundred
dollars you guys will find it
unbelievably powerful up you know
I'm gonna be great so oh man that's the
way you want it okay so what are we
gonna do let's do another song back
there was though I think a good song
choices that we sing a lot of times in
your Shiva and water Barry and her baby
killers came in was probably sitting at
like 20 30 times a fish is very into the
song era and back to like what the what
musical road news so this is Vishal
Chellis officially but we kind of took
it over yeah oh well
[Laughter]
yeah so basically rabbit killers a lot I
think music in Waterbury it's not it's
not just like there's there's water very
and like they have like nice music guys
sing I think like music is water berry
and what I mean by that is like it
there's not not there's a there's a
there's not a day that like there
doesn't pass where where there's not
music song whether if it's Annie muster
or or just randomly the river comes just
pop you over because I just once when he
was in the middle of uh mr. Shue said he
just had everybody sink yeah yeah so
that that happens every day like he's
very cuz he explained once that songs
and water berry they're not just any
people asked like why you keep saying
repetitive songs like in the same five
songs like Sarah killer said it's very
it the songs were singing it's not we're
not just singing a song or it's
representing yeshiva I think I think
Hathi my king is not well I think that
would sing I like it feel like a you
know Malkina with hockey my king we're
saying we're diving that Sean was saying
like what we're asking our Shannon
novice halt uh Sarah mineral I quit were
we're we're diving which I think that's
that's the essence of a Shiva the zyre
courage says that the shark Nagina are
next to the sherry Chuba and music has
the ability to reach in the summer in a
different way not gain is none which is
the 50th level that takes you to gun
even so it's powerful so go ahead take
it away
[Music]
yeah
[Music]
yeah
[Music]
they'll again
[Music]
like
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
my
yes mommy
is she
was
[Music]
girl they like it
Islamism imei CA me
[Music]
laughs easy
[Applause]
[Music]
now I gave my meter and girl they liked
it
I read an album years ago yeah yeah a
couple years ago
how did it sell yeah yeah so those were
all songs were composed by any of us
made it no this was like a long yeah so
what we do another one working on it we
just did you like songs one sided single
is very into singing yeah singles you
don't even know what that means when I
was growing up we used to buy a 45 rpm
record a song a one set in the song of
the other side we used to put them on
and I say listen to songs that come with
the release her or this was way before
beepers don't know papers you know if it
was fancy had like a little stack that
would let him drop down and you know and
then the little arm would go over and
did I'll play the play the record and
that was as far as a cat you know today
it's it's all everything's digital it's
a whole different world well though I'm
told that there were people who DAF
could hold on to a an old record player
because they say the sound of a record
is better than the digital sound they
make modern records now which are like a
thing to have yeah
I'm not enough of a Bucky of music to
tell you this but people tell you that
the music that comes off of a record is
is a as a deeper sounder than that which
is recorded which I find all you believe
cuz you can create anything you want to
come on grim we're dead that's the story
yeah so so so what what did they tell
you about music and water besides the
fact that obviously they would use music
yeah but what did they try to encourage
you or they encouraged you to do the
music right
I only encouraged the sports they have
they have sports legs or a carriage tell
me they think the sports leagues very
seriously you know and yeah the sports
and the exercise but we should be
healthy mind and body right so they
obviously encouraged amusing so what's
the what does he tell you about music
what is music supposed to be well good
question very much right that's why I
have this job
what is that achilles tell us about
music well I guess I before expression
imagine that though is that that's
definitely that's definitely true I told
this story with a bee right bird when I
was out in LA so sometimes either invite
me of my house from his house for dinner
I was I was about he would come home and
he'd sit down at the piano honey we just
talked to play I didn't recognize any of
the tunes and I said to his wife what's
he playing and she said his day he could
just sit down and turn his day into
music the only other time I ever saw
that is that I had a counselor when I
was in camp who was a classical
guitarist and he used to sit down and
play these very you know nothing moderns
very complicated pieces but you can see
he was just losing himself for the music
no so-so music obviously has the ability
for self-expression but it's gotta be
more than that right because so is
poetry or art or you know that's
definitely a gift also from a sham I
don't really know how making songs work
specific needs right yeah it's all you
you play oh yeah it's interesting it
just seems to come to you if at least
when you're writing music it's not like
you're trying so hard to specifically
write a song it kinda is just there if I
pick up October and or any of us it's
not there's not a sit down and say I'm
going to write a song ya know can't
happen which by the way there are are
people like I'm are you professional
like a lot a lot of music that we're
listening to now is like there's like a
saying like a said said artists writing
a happy song or a happy hour in like you
cut all like songs that sell now it's
like okay we need 10 songs let's write
songs that's nice very force right Paul
McCarthy once said that there was a
group called the Beatles
so McCartney one said he says I really
thought that we were like this
counterculture like you know it just you
know not material I think he says me and
John would sit down and say let's write
a swimming pool let's try the right
story that we know is going to be a hit
and be commercial and you know so this
is this is not
the sort of techno music that seems to
be so popular today I mean this is what
more like the eighth time cats
yeah so so song just comes to you how
many songs have you written couple 15 20
just in the past week
now it means - so you think II think -
and you were saying 15 20 so there's
right - do those do it so a couple of
means like be - 10 and 20 that's yeah I
guess so how many of those were produced
one one excellent yeah how many hits did
you get well I um no not that often it
was basically whatever was in a couple
more than a couple Wow so so you get
something rigid on something that's that
that says you know that would bury the
essence of what you guys are trying to
bring your cross you know in a song
[Music]
that's sense of what guys are trying to
bring the crossers know what you guys
are bigger than everybody you can all
you can only talk to the people who are
here that's always uh you know I I had
somebody once who said to me you know
goes oh so you're at operative
relationship bureau I said I wouldn't
say that
and Ramesh's certainly wouldn't say that
but I was one of the people who said
this year for a very long time you know
in fact at one time somebody was upset
at Reformation they were trying to take
it out of me you know and I said to him
I said you're angry at the king and you
want to kill the Jester you know even a
guy you know I'm nobody and till the
stir of my shine he said it's really
very funny that wasn't exactly what I
was looking for
but we certainly agreed it reminds me
when I was on a panel I remember I
shouldn't mention the name although I
used to say with his name I'm a more
careful but a very famous well-known
person in Kirov you know we'd be on a
panel and I said you know we agree on
one point we disagree on another we both
agree that he is a lot of worthwhile
things to say we just disagree whether
or not I do and I'm okay with that
you know because you certain people are
just enthralled by the sound of their
own voice when I was going to speak at
the a good if I had that good of voice
I'd be absorbed by my voice when I was
going to speak of the a good convention
so there's a concept be prepared to read
late because people just can't believe
that they're speaking if they could at
convention and they just can't stop they
just so taken with with the experience
okay so that's that's this your is your
intro where you can play which we do
we're so maybe I'll maybe you should
leave this long yeah I don't know her
very songs well turn it into low degree
obviously the whole idea is that there's
a music to whatever right that's the
idea I learned in a limb fishing you see
but we also had we had we couldn't you
know write her a coma
to me the worst when somebody who just
is clearly not tuneful and they managed
to take something and turn it into
something so incredibly painful it's
better be on you I don't have to go
together it's not as bad in Israel what
are these swivels and some of these guys
are just like having mobility no all
right losers Matt and precious where
it's really goes it's videos so good
speak speak for your music since you
guys obviously have nothing to say about
anything else so that's fine told you
there's a lot of Valley cities holding
that let's go absolutely not yeah
supposedly you play also yeah how'd you
learn guitar that's good
how did you learn your turn my older
brother he wouldn't get tired I have no
idea how did you oh you're tired
oh you two kind of taught myself I don't
know your I thought your father blocked
you too but it did but I was like oh
there's a way around there at the time
look at that ice putting it like rigors
Rimmel Kate was said many many years ago
there's a tumblr relationship for many
years so he cometh certainly Shapiro's
house and he sees on the refrigerator
with a magnet is a picture no whoever
the youngest kid was went to God and
drew a picture of like you know you know
they figured he made gracious it was the
son of the moon and the stars you know
so he says I didn't know there but my
sure holds that you can draw a picture
of the Sun the Moon of the stars he says
what you learnt is the revelation
doesn't know what's going on in his
house and he took it down so uh listen I
can't be held responsible for everything
and especially you know Russia is number
ten in the family and you know my my
oldest son Yakko who's been here before
we're often say you know if that wasn't
you would have killed me and it's true
but you reach a certain age where you
just don't have don't worry he did he
killed me many yeah feel like stop it no
okay come back yeah
don't play with the knife alright you
just do old you don't have the strength
you know there was a young young parents
and all the parents all the parents have
more experience and less stamina it was
like that line from Willy Wonka the
Chocolate Factory
yeah well it goes wait stop come back
that's what it's like guarantee
eternally okay
[Music]
I've been trying to gather my
the colors in my life I just want to
speak but they're black and white to me
there but I can white to me ha
first
[Music]
I've been trying to gather my son
because in my life I just wanna see but
the black and white to me
either black-and-whites me me me back
bring me back show me that I can that I
can I've been in the dark for so long so
reveal bring me Oh
Oh God
[Music]
so really bad pretty bad show me that I
can that I can
I've been in the dark for so long
so maybe I'll bring the Oh
[Music]
nice bring us all gringos
bring us all ragazzo bring us all
Oh
I thought I was then what everyone's and
I heard a retailer speaking and he was
saying something about why he prefers
songs with English words I think he said
he likes to mix also like the Hebrew and
why is it what is the guys could
understand I think it makes it more real
to us I think like just because English
so it's so interesting you know because
this is issue of taking tsukimi and and
making them into songs and like people
always say do we need another official
tea I should borrow you know environment
you know those kind of things
but these are all very original and
they're really expressing something in
an original way okay I'm gonna say
something else you just feel free to not
at the conclusion what do you what do
you want to write this song about
connection to Jen that's it we're not
doing about relationships with people
oh that's also good it's also good but
the song that is inside of you is a song
to a Kurdish powerful yes yeah and your
songs yeah I think the same I think I
think yeah like the connection like all
from above yeah it's a it's an amazing
thing because you know the most
fundamental point of all of you the sky
is to be able to have a cache with a
coach powerful and when I'd learned to
come time we've had a play boards was
Oshima used to sing it's possible for a
guy to sit and learn in yeshiva a whole
day and that once think about it could
grow because if you didn't come up in
the sugah
you know who's thinking about you know
and these tobert replenishment Levites
who would be working on a secure it's
got something you'd be learning it get
up go over to the Armco dish take the
Perot Chris
hold it say it's Fela you know and sit
back there and I see where we left what
was that laughter I'm not the CEO
whenever he gets up because at first the
art takes the protis it says little
tulip money tens Riley speaks more
relevant it's because you know when you
when you lose the most important thing
and that's what ends up happening the
most important thing so mr. Sharma says
Anna's like them are the most important
things of the things that we tend to
forget
now we don't put emphasis on and things
slip away so now you guys are learning
in each show what's the plan what
happens next just learning you before so
the thumb is playing going to brisk
actually just like a matter I didn't
know this yeah it's certainly a new
development in your musical direction
when you go to brisk some of the
greatest risk and it would be good and
coming to mind
it's like starts to being it's I when I
looked at was I am I mean you know so
the rabbi sons to Vegas these guys came
out of home time it was definitely in
fact I went saying a cyclic lena and
rabbi sharkman who was in both of those
groups you know sent me a recording from
the rabbi sons of where they recorded a
circle of clean it was you know so by us
but I remember we would sometimes do any
go down and they would say this is from
slobotnik you know like they you know
some of some of these tunes that they as
a messiah for I was giving a sure once
yeah I was giving it in the shul when we
were I was teaching a class about the
diverting human ever in governing and I
started to do the negative four over
show tonight uh
yeah yeah yeah yeah and everybody joined
in and the place was shaking and I
couldn't I couldn't go on with the class
I was literally shaking I went into the
office and one of their pain bilang
Santino we didn't use a redundant ceases
what's the matter Tom what happened he
says well that's you know the demotius
says that the gunam that we use on Rosh
Hashanah have the power to be my or us
to Juba this was the tune itself that's
the power of the bigot
so it's this amazing thing sending like
one of the ways to brink it will I
remember I remember what you told me
this once that like there's different
ways that you would Capri mushiya and
one of the ways are through music
someone says but I don't know exactly I
don't know if there's a part I just
don't know the position my said I don't
know that it's must be a famous
thing in but I don't know it doesn't
mean anything about maybe that the poet
Anya came to a town and everybody had
you know they prepared questions for him
you know
C says first let's sing a you know
the story know he's Irish and he sings
this and all the questions you
know think everybody realized the
answers to their questions it just it
just brought you a sense of clarity that
the talent is a guess
so that's unbelievable right by sight
what can I tell you a coach broker gave
me a special gift I never learned how to
play an instrument my parents never got
me lessons and you could sing goodness I
accuse me I can sing but I don't have a
trained voice go high and I can go let's
face it you know nobody is going to
listen to me for my music that's for
sure
and and and I never let it play an
instrument which to me is like I always
wished smoke flavor I'm just doing with
slang Australia so
remember we were blue one said it comes
it's I think I was sitting there playing
a guitar and he says it's so beautiful
to have an instrument you can just pull
it out with a group of people and play
and and everyone can be sing along I
said yeah he says that's why I love to
play the drums but it doesn't really
have the same thing unless you're
watching bad don't-don't-don't anyway
it's like a triangle yeah I put myself a
professional tambourine okay that's
pretty yeah yeah because it's as long as
you're gonna hold the beat it's not too
hard to play the tambourine you know
there must be a real science to what it
is you know but I can play pin Berean
and the kazoo but that's about it
but to be able to my my son-in-law avi
Liberman plays the keyboard you know
just fit we sit at the keyboard where it
would party time yeah such an
unbelievable thing yeah we had a guy
when I was in yeshiva 1975 who's
learning how to play the trumpet we used
to like him in the McLaren see until you
learn yeah when I wanted to learn drums
I don't remember I went to lessons for a
couple months and then by the time I
started practicing there was a very big
rejection from her my family was very
[Music]
wise like that my kids end up in
waterbury but anyway thank you very much
love you anyway no it's a promise is a
tough thing to have to practice violin
in the 1950s there was a TV show called
I Love Lucy Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz
yeah anyway so they have a kid little
Ricky and they find a drum set and you
just see the whole day he's praising
throw
rum-rum-rum and they get up in the
morning and they're walking to the beat
amazing thing anyway
all right um I think we're out of time
so for this week we we want to thank
everybody who's been watching this
special musical episode we want to thank
our extremely talented musical talent
for this week and and if you want to
find out more about the show you go to

the shoal twenty years ago did not live
to see its completion and it's because
of all kinds of red tape and all kinds
of problems and now their mamas at the
end they're hoping to move into the
building you know by Pesach and they're
making a two-day campaign so anybody who
would like to participate we're putting
the link on the podcast and you know
whatever you can whatever anybody can do
it's a two-day appeal if anybody wants
to try to help build a show and you
shall I'm very much of a sock and you
know I'm doing this is my small
contribution is reaching out to the
people who you know might feel a
casshern would like to see a show of
built in night show know that I would
have a place to Devon
instead of theirs they're in a lobby and
it gets cold anyway
full disclosure it's really cold anyway
that's the story once again thank you
for everybody for this special Oh next

musical episode I hope which I'm sure
