That's the biggest compliment.
You feel a connection.
>> But you want to feel that

Amazing. Just I had to share that with
you. Amazing compliment.
It mentions

I was holding the microphone and there

So I'm holding the microphone.
I said, "Music, stop, stop, stop a

Oh, that sounds good. I said, "No,
like you say,
compliment.
Speaking of compliments,
in the line
mentioned eventually they would get
probably a little bit um
in Berlin.
You don't seem to have a big ego.
Yeah,
>> I try to hide it
without letting it get to your headl
first of all.
So they were a role model for me.
Eden
headlines
did what he had to do. That's it. So
this is
so I think automatically automatically
bring this This is
I don't know.
I don't know. The secret
eventually people get bored and
your schedule is packed.
I don't take it for granted
considering all the talent that's out
there today
out there today
and my phone is still ringing
every day. if I miss a day.
But uh I try to say thank you every
single day for this. Like you said,
yeah.
So uh like I said,
you know,
but not not the way you've been, right?
>> But I think you travel more than me. But
certain places you've been to that I've
never been to.
>> Maybe. Maybe.
>> Okay. So, it's a competition.
So
the garbage travel
number one
is
I would have to do something else and I
don't know if I would be good at
something else,
preferably home.
>> Wow.
>> And I don't know.
He wasn't in the
but he wasn't he didn't have that
uh I don't have any special secrets that
gave him
only thing is
try to work it out.
>> Yeah. And uh second of all that maybe
you have a some place for another
one you know one one talent and that's
it.
So
maybe part maybe take off a little of
the pressure
and um
and she's busy with
because they're the real heroes.
No, we get all the attention. You're
talking to me, not to my wife, you know,
but she's the wives are the heroes. They
really make it all all possible,
you know.
So, um
they send you off. But this is
struggled with them.
Um
but again the
and there was a I was out of town
and these days
everything worked out perfect.
Wow,
>> it was beautiful. So I never missed any
big birthdays and graduations, you know.
I think I was on the telephone some
place and my daughter was graduating and
I was on watching on the telephone.
That was a little bittersweet. But um
this is
you want to slow down a little bit,
right? you know
an idea on the on the side.
The kids sometimes call me.
Yeah.
But I but I land also you know
I land.
Yeah, it's it's
the traveling, you know, you you want to
be
>> means people want you means traveling. I
tried to be home for when the kids were
young, but you try try to do the best
you can.
Okay, you know is coming. I'm busy next
month. I can back off a little bit,
>> right?
>> But you want to have it in your resume.
you know I was here also you know you
need you need
to say you know what this trip not now
I'm not going to go now I want to go
home now for two days I'm going to be
home because it's yeah
>> and it's and it's popularity you know
but if you really are if you really are
a mench you have the to do that that
that would deserve a compliment I didn't
give into another booking. I wanted to
be home with my wife and kids.
If you can do that, tell me how you do
it.
We can observe
the struggle
>> also the is important.
So says from the I don't hate the
traveling
>> and um
it's it's that's part of the if I would
hate traveling
that would be a another challenge but uh
it's difficult with the you come you
come in the morning at night you have a
concert your voice has to be in shape
and
>> you have to get up early the next
morning get up early
Maybe I should get but if you can you go
a day earlier you know you try to be
normal about it
>> then you're away from the family it's
>> yeah exactly exactly
>> I don't have any special secrets I'm
sorry
>> okay
>> sometime takes your family along with
you
>> that I do a lot
>> okay good there you go
>> but even that it's not it's not complet
is is
>> true that's true and you're busy and
then you have you know I when I when I
go with the family at a certain concert.
Okay, I have to go to rehearsals and and
I'm nervous and cuts out, you know.
>> So, that's also a a balance.
Do you have fear of flight?
>> I used to used to
have fear of flying. You know how many
times
because if you stop the turbulence,
did the turbulence bother you?
>> Oh, scary.
It's it's nerve-wracking and I was so
afraid a lot of times and it stopped the
turbulence stopped pretty soon after
I was very scared of flying. I wrote to
the about it.
Then I cut you off.
Okay.
I have to travel
for
Okay.
People
ask me so every you go by
no
right said
so ever since then I don't leave the
house you know without myas
and
I hope I hope I hope it's kosher you
know and
flee I'm comfortable
Not so if it gets really seriously
turbulent it gets a little nervous but I
can relax in
a long time that I've said to him with
this condition.
I said
that's how that's how scared I was about
flying.
Just naturally
>> just naturally
flew out.
>> Yes.
>> I think it was like I got it at the
airport in the tish from

>> Okay.

years ago I took up couple of pushkas.
That's the pushka that I have. foreign.

in old age. Okay.
for
then you have some English song the
melody
like father don't cry
>> you wrote the melody
>> wow
>> keep climbing
>> Mhm. Uh why from a distance?
So it depends on the
you took songs from other people.
>> The first Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Green for
those were the two uh
um I think the first
was
That was on
what CD was that on
was that many many years ago many years
ago and depends on
you know
>> sometimes so you know there's a there's
a very nice there's a nice song called
>> familiar with that. So um
yeah,
an Israeli writer wrote song.
Really?
>> Yeah. Go look it up.
There was a a girl in a schoolish school
who put in a verse of the Bible into her
um report and they threw out of school.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
I'm giving you days of hope at the end.
Jeremiah 46.
Beautiful words.
So I sat down by the piano and the song
came out
came out. But sometimes it takes father
don't cry. Also
my was was crying for whatever reason.
>> Yeah.
>> Your father cry. So same idea. I went to
the piano. The words and the melody just
came flowing out.
>> Shiel's piano.
>> Yeah. A couple of chords. Pine hunt. But
never. You never perform piano?
>> No.
>> That would be very interesting.
>> I'm a drummer.
>> Really?
>> Yeah.
>> Not with drumsticks.
>> No. Took a couple of lessons, but that's
that's that.
So sometimes the comes together with
the words or, you know, you familiar
with the
Freedom is giving.
>> Oh, this is this is much later.
>> Much later.
>> Much later. Came out. Yeah. Much later.
I did a Yiddish CD songs.
>> Oh.
>> No, that's
>> that's my favorite one.
>> You know, are you familiar with?
>> Nope.
So on this Yiddish album called Amakaya,
>> I have some new Yiddish songs and some
old Yiddish songs
>> that I collected
on this. There's a song called you know.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, that's on that's on.
>> Okay.
Yeah. So there's a song on there called
Okay.
Also,
I wrote the lyrics
But I'm not yours.
And so also the lyrics came quite quite
uh quite quickly. The melody
years later
um
that we did together. It took us years
to write it, but we we finished it and u
it's a good album.
>> I'm going to listen to it. If I could
say so myself
>> on the way home
>> some once. Yeah, back back in the day we
were in touch a little more. Now he's
very busy.
>> As are you?
>> Actually, we're in touch now. I saw him
by your wedding the other day and uh
hopefully we'll do something together
like a collab,
you know. So, uh, when he can narrow it
down to his one idea was handled.
>> Iraq.
>> Yeah, I remember that video.
>> Yeah,
>> I saw that clip.
>> Yeah. Yeah. I What's What's there?
>> Nice.
>> Wow.
>> Inspiration,
>> right? He did.
>> He did.
>> And he did. Yeah.
on the trip.
>> Wow.
Wow. So he called you or you called him?
>> He called me.
I sent him a video that we're singing
here in Iraq. And he says, "Well, I have
to tell you I have interesting."
>> Yeah. and we ended up there
hotel room with rice cake peanut butter
and he's he's in the middle of composing
it so he's just running back and forth
in the room.
>> Unbelievable.
A talent.
A talent
in the music industry.
Allah flavors.
>> Allah flavors. All the colors.
The message is good and kids have what
to listen to. It's good. It's all good.
Struggle.
album.
Now it's just it's almost like
disposable.
>> Yeah. I'm not guilty of that. My last my
last album was 10 years ago.
>> Whatever. A lot of years ago. What was
my last album?
>> Bring the house down.
>> But a lot of singles. Uh Bring the House
Down. Maybe it's a long time ago. No.
>> Maybe. Maybe I'm dating myself.
>> That's a long time.
>> In the music business, it's a long time.
>> Yeah.
>> And is
no new no new no
>> no
>> but albums. Everything is streaming.
Singles. So singles. I'm putting out a
lot. But
I'm working. I'm working ready to go
out.
Stay tuned.
There'll be stuff
>> very exciting
>> English
>> everything
if I have to go to this modern
>> no style
exactly was not you know this modern
stuff
um
today wouldn't work.
H I'm not sure. I think a good song is a
good song. People like a good song. And
um
I'm ready to record it.
For strangers, besides strangers
of us is in gets in a dormatory in uh I
don't know where and he sends you a song
but I get songs every day.
>> Yeah.
>> Every day. Every day.
Um
that I've taken a song from any of these
strangers.
>> Okay.
>> If I'm not mistaken
but um 100% if it's a good song
also started before before he became
famous he wasn't known right you know.
So if a guy has a good song, a talent
is a good song.
I'll take it
otherwise
I won't connect with the audience won't
connect
anywhere in the entertainment industry
music
audience
what is in style That's
in the process.
>> Yeah, it's a price price you pay.
You don't know who you are anymore cuz
you just keep following the trends.
water down on their go bring the down
because
if you give them to more
brings it close to the
>> exactly I think the same thing is in the
I think it's the same thing if you're
true to yourself
and that's now there's a very
yeah
>> I don't I don't know why maybe but I
want to be an Israeli singer
and I did the same thing I did the same
thing but I keep reminding the am that
don't get
that that's who you are.
I had
wasab
all all the all the you know the hits
from from back then
you know Israeli
and I was after Al Katan came out was
pushing do an Israeli CDN
was such a hit do more Israeli okay so I
did an Israeli album the whole album
but this this this
That's not me. That's another color in
in my rainbow of of music.
I'm aidic singer. I hope so. My core
the theides.
Okay.
Or or
if you want to call that.
So don't forget who you are. You want to
do a but
I want to sing like an Israeli. I want
to be Israeli. Okay. You have a good
song. Do it. But
this is your new your new identity.
Don't don't lose that. If you're a kidic
singer
singers,
they sing their material, you know. So,
it's a problem. You want to go with
but it's not me. Then you're going to
you're going to pay a price. Pay a
price. You're going to lose who you are.
It's not worth it.
>> Sounds like you're saying
>> no.
Okay. Yeah.
That your core, if you're if you're
calling yourself a kidic singer, then
your core should be music.
>> Mhm.
Many singers today very popular who are
singing Israeli Israeli have
yeah which is okay which is okay but
every time the same thing
so if you're doing it because right now
this is what you want to do but you got
to go back to the back back to your core
back to don't lose yourself don't lose
yourself
>> and um
position
If you don't like the song, but you
think the crowd is going to like it,
that's already
that's already you're going down to it.
You're going down
the audience. They feel that it's not
you.
>> 100%. Exactly. Exactly. You know, I just
read a book about Rosenblat.
>> The book's negative.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. His son His son
wrote a book. Yeah.
>> Yas Rosenblat.
>> Okay.
has fascinating about his life.
Fascinating
>> there was a there in the booking
operas by concerts.
>> Mhm.
>> Apparatas operatic what what are they
called the whatever
>> in Italian?
>> Yeah. Okay.
The
were disappointed
by the concert
pieces. We came to hear you sing.
And he said, "I know, but
I want to sing opera also." Mhm.
Whatever. But the was saying
so you know Israeli Israeli stuff
there's a lot of great Israeli singers
hadn't had Israeli stuff but this
got
>> yeah okay and he sent it I don't know
why he gave it to me it's an amazing
song
>> I mean you are an amazing singer
>> I'm saying he could have done it himself
it's a big such a huge fant fantastic
song. So after that kept saying the
Israeli
it bothered me but I did it. I did it.
You have now um summer
a week of a week of celebration.
Um amazing amazing 20 20 shows in a
week. It's unbelievable.
and they have me sing some of the songs
with the Israeli Hav. It bothered me
in the contract
wasn't in the contract.
>> Yeah. Yeah. So sometimes it it bothers
me to listen to me singing.
I'm getting used to it. But it it bother
it bothers me. Why can't I sing like who
I am? You know,
which reminds me, there was an Israeli
singer, an old-timer, who decided to put
out
classics.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> Okay. No. What do you think?
Anyway, that was a disaster. Disaster.
>> Uh, no. No.
Clearly not. I don't think it was.
But so I'm just saying you are who you
are,
you know. But what's the song I on that
album called?
Yeah.
You know, so singing is the same thing.
Find out who you are. A lot of the
people come to me the give me tip for
for for singing. You know what the tip
is. Don't be an imitator. Be who you
are. Bring up as your own quality, your
own color,
you know. Anyhow, so that that's that's
a be who you are. Sing sing the songs
that speak to you.
So let's go really deep.
>> Let's go.
>> V. Can I mention?
>> You know what? You had to mention vice
>> automatically.
>> Automatically a baby knows how to how to
how to how to feed a moment after it was
born. You figure it out. You figure it
out. Um,
you're not who you know, you're not who
you are. You're really somebody else or
this is better. So you have to have a
good talk with yourself
and and figure out who's the who's the
and who's the here like what what
direction are you going and it's very
easy to figure out very easy but then is
very very uh
can I think people know automatically
where their strengths are where they
should be going their upbringing their
their natias I I don't think it's all
complicated hated
I know I don't um certain things that I
can do but you're saying even in music
where should I go right even in music
what style do I want I think even that
everybody knows
who they are and that's why today have
so many colors cuz those who are singing
other colors know that they're other
colors
you know that's it but stick to your
color do you want to be a little madish
In in our music we have certain colors.
We have songs from
we have Yiddish songs which is another
color. We have English song. It's a
little more modern English which is
okay. That's all part of the family of
under the banner ofidic music so to
speak. But one if if you're a kidic
singer and you're you're pulled a little
bit more by this modern music and it's
very very
then you know you know it's wrong. It's
hard to pump it, you know. So, you do it
because it sounds popular. Like you
said, you're honest with yourself. Be
honest with yourself.
>> Says, "Do mention.
It doesn't have to be you. If everybody
Exactly right. Exactly right. And that's
that's today's Jewish music. There's
colors. Everyone is having a I don't
have to do any more colors cuz everyone
is
so now you could really be you. Exactly
right. Exactly right.
Gave it to the this this oh look this
beat works because goes crazy,
you know, whatever. Um not for me. Not
for me. So if you could have that window
with it doesn't cloud that window for
you then you're safe.
If right away if it has the wrong beat
it's out.
Um
no
and changing it. I mean, the beat is the
beat. I mean, it's it's, you know,
over all the years.
Nice.
You know,
I don't feel that's not my
I think there's enough Jewish songs that
could be composed.
You know
that now is holy. Okay. Not my style.
Not for me.
Very
little.
>> Less than 1%.
>> Yeah. Very little. But you never know.
That's why I listen. I I
listen.
And I decide, but usually it's not
pushing me in the air.
>> Yeah. Lately lately I'm getting a lot of
songs init from good composers good
>> do
>> besides do the dart
>> Israeli composers okay
>> Israeli composers
good good stuff
is I'm not taking it now if it's a
mistake I could take it and put it out
later not looking to do now taking a
break from
I did my now I'm taking a
the American
100%.
>> I wasn't I'm not I'm not Israeli,
>> right?
>> Not Israeli.
They're not you.
with a heavy accent. That's what I mean.
My Israeli accent is okay, but you can
tell it's an American boy singing
Israeli songs,
but like I said,
time
but now, okay, taking a break. So, a lot
of stuff and it ends up and they record
it.
Every song has its address, you know.
Not for me right now.

That's 7183953465.
Let's go back to the fleet
in the direction
the music.
No,
because it's going where it's going
where it's meant to go
generations.
So that's it. Things happen,
things change, things evolve, you know,
technology, not what it used to be. You
know, the sound is better and and the
music is better and the arrangements are
better. Everything is better and more
modern.
Everything everything
of course was I what this in English or
something like you kidding
did
wrote it down it wasn't allowed
things things change things happen as I
you can't say oh yeah it's you got to
stop it's not possible it's not possible
that's how things develop and things
evolve and it's good it's good no then
or then
you have to decide where are you in this
in this evolvement that's all what's
your versus
the host
music is coming out every day.
It's very hard to make a a big impact
with a song and
you don't.
So is not the right word.
You need good material. You need good
material.
and
give me some good material on material
and uh so it's taking time for some
reason taking time to get the get the
big hits I don't know why but it's
taking me time
um but um you know before it
stay focused and uh
shaking
even though I don't have a new album
ready for years. They mostly hit the
classics,
the old stuff. But Mamm there'll be new
stuff and um
this is al
but you can't change you can't change
the the
>> can't you can't this this is the guy
can't change but then
it's all you have to worry about. Um
problems artist
was
so
yeah like I told you
but they got smart these composers
instead of sing sending me a song
accompaniment
piano guitar. They got smart now. They
send me the song with AI music. So, it
sounds great. Sounds good.
>> But the but the composition in this is,
you know, it's not going to it's not
going to change the melody.
>> The melody is is not great. AI can,
you know, so AI, like I said, this is a
part of this is part of the evolution.
Um, what I don't like is that people do
things unrest like they'll they'll um
they'll take a song and they'll put my
image au I'm singing the song
like animation
>> No, but yeah, it's animation but you you
can tell it's me
>> but it's not very good uh you know
reproduction. This is
that the facial it's very mudna very
very mudna.
So the fact that no one asks that I
think is a is a problem. Um
on the other hand somebody just put out
a uh a clip one of the yiddish a shin
story. Okay, Matt, you don't see me
singing, but they they captured the
story with with a video of one of the
Yiddish songs out of Yiddish Gems. It's
very beautiful. Very beautiful. Well
done.
Um,
but I wasn't asked permission.
>> Mhm.
>> It's me singing it.
>> It's my voice singing it. Anyhow, but
>> that would be nice. That would be nice.
Yeah,
>> you're using my voice.
>> Of course.
>> Um, if you're asking, is it okay to use
AI to compose
songs today?
Jewish songs, so to speak. Like if I if
I ask uh AI,
okay,
I get I get back a good, would I sing
it? Why not? So
program
when you when you put something into AI
references
so
based on what you hear over here. So I
have been I have been
AI stuff. Okay.
>> With Yiddish ideas, but the melody was
too modern. Said, "Not for me. Not for
me." If I get back a that has a from
AI.
Okay. Why not
favorite? I know that you probably get
that all the time.
said the mdash
w
that's a tough one.
What do you think?
I wouldn't know. I wouldn't know either.
What's the closest?
So first of all
was composed like
that I did. You mean from the composers
or the
you know back in the day the real uh
>> let's let's phrase it differently
the most purest place that you've ever
sang.
>> Well I think if you go back to the
>> Mhm.
>> that were composed by byikimid
I think that those are pretty holy.
>> Yeah.
>> Those are pretty holy. And then it gets
a little less. There's some beautiful
cloud singing that Josie Green wrote
that composed you know I wouldn't say
it's on the same level as a as a which
is which is not an insult of course just
you know the times times change.
So I am very proud they are proud that
I love that. I love that.
Yeah.
Yes.
Yeah.
You know,
you sing it like that.
Okay. It's nice. It's nice. But if you
get
a beat,
I'm okay with that. I'm okay with that.
That they they sped up.
That's already playing with fire, I
think.
>> But
no, no question about it. By the way,
the the the summer concerts
>> Yeah.
>> they're very very modern.
>> Yeah.
>> Modern in the sense that the
arrangements are very very modern. The
zer
the arrangement, you know, with good
beat and a good groove and
cannot live with that. They can't can't
handle it because you take that's
supposed to be, you know, they get the
fancy sounds and and effects.
So the real McCoy
not not for them not to for them they
love it but they love it the audience is
so
true
exactly exactly again depends very you
know with the music if it's not for you
I know people won't take take it into
the house this. So play it in the house
for the kids. They want them to hear,
you know, how it's done really, but
okay.
involved
professional.
>> He's like, you know, it's tough job.
>> I'm not a singer, but
>> you're traveling. You travel,
you know, it's a tough job.
You know, uh,
not easy.
Yeah.
>> Yeah.
Son in California.
>> Okay. Freedman's in California.
>> Yeah. Yeah. ne my nephews
>> V in California. Is it?
>> He's in Escanido, California.
>> Never heard of it, but it sounds like
it's near the Mexican border.
>> Near San Diego.
>> Okay, that's very close.
>> And my other son is a teacher in a
school. I'm Mhammed.
>> No, in Florida. Okay. In Florida. And I
have a in Marus town was doing. And I
have a in Atlanta who's doing
in Atlanta. Friendship circle in
Atlanta.
>> And uh
They're all uh all doing good stuff.
But when we sing together,
especially
that that was a good decision to do
those

in part of this program
he was like spless.

>> No. And my son said, "No one's going to

>> Yeah. Do do the do the with your two

So on the phone we no fancy recording.
My wife took the phone and recorded us

felt they weren't going to shul because
you couldn't leave the house but they
got a braha it was there very very
special days and streaming it's
available on YouTube or on the iTunes
and
>> might be online from from my house yeah
>> I think it's out there I think it's

>> This is the Freriedman family choir.
This is given of the album Yanko.
>> Um I I used No. No. I had some other
kids join in Yank.
>> Not Friedman's.
>> I don't think so. I think my kids are
already too big if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah. But I have them on I have a CD
called my Tatans Midgetes.
>> Okay. pat
that um the Z took
and put Shabas to the to the melody.
But we have that Bab sings um
we sing it
took the melody and put Shabas to it.
Mhm.
A lot of songs that put
tom. So we have a CD me and my brothers
and my kids singing
brothers.
>> My brothers
all
>> no microphones.
I took the microphone but uh yeah very
it's a CD where you get a feel how table
China 12 songs.
Yeah.
They were It wasn't
They were a little hesitant.
>> Mhm.
Mama was proud.
>> Go do it.
>> Mama was proud. Was worried.
It's just
there was one one story one story where
they came back to me and they said if
you give up singing
but that's not you
>> obviously that wasn't the
but yeah one one one
possible makitan said If you if you
don't uh you know it wasn't popular then
>> it's like a
>> who does that
>> who does that you know
look look what's happening
marriages
with his mind because when we got
married azine wasn't like I just was
starting.
So, uh yeah, he kicked kicked him credit
and shows up to the job, you know, on a
daily basis.
The kids are bigger now, but it wasn't
it wasn't easy,
you know, and uh I feel
on the way I had to stop. She had to
continue alone. On the way back, I had
to stop. You know, it was
>> wherever. Wherever. Wasn't wasn't wasn't
easy.
his son. Mention mention
should their daughter date a singer.
>> Okay.
>> Cuz it's not probably not an easy life.
>> Yeah.
>> Who's just starting out, but he's
starting to have, you know, with Titman.
So I said, you your daughter won't be
the first one to marry a singer. They've
survived. Not easy, but you have to know
what you're getting into, but you won't
be the first one.
Marriages have survived with
the man being a singer or a popular
whatever traveling in businesses
traveling.
Oh yeah traveling okay maybe it's not so
so often couple of times a year but
9 to5 not being home because you have a
job is
you know
to be alone a whole day. Yeah.
Somehow somehow they they do it
the break for the status
WhatsApp.
Trust me, it's interesting. Text me.
Send me a WhatsApp at 9297775425.
That's 929775425
connected to the internet
of the internet. Good for you. You're
better off. hidden from
the hotline. Phone number is 605-477188.
That's 605477188.
Let's get back to the episode
cuz I don't have a 9 to5. So if you
start looking actually at the amount of
time I'm home
out of the country, out of town I'm
home.
>> Exactly. Right.
>> Yeah.
>> Like there's no no day looks the same
routines. You have some kind of fitness
thing.
Got to got to stay in shape.
>> Yeah,
>> you got to stay in shape
>> for sure. You have to work out. You have
to vocalize.
>> Okay. And that's to do the gift. It's to
do the
most people it's just the gof they have
to worry about. But it's the gift and
the
so uh yeah it's it's vocalizing it's
it's it's exercising. You can't go on
stage for two hours and
if you're not if you have no breath
after 5 seconds you're out of breath.
What does that look like practically
in Germany?
to Berlin.
>> So it probably meant that I spent Friday
running around in the room back and
forth.
>> I remember you talking about your
Yeah.
>> No, no gym.
>> No. No.
>> Like they weren't such big rooms.
>> I know. Jumping jumping jacks. What?
Whatever you can do.
>> Just cardio.
>> Whatever you can do cardio. Just jumping
around. Moving moving.
>> Says
>> few times a day. two times a day. It
>> doesn't have to be for an hournak. Same
thing with the voice uh vocalizing. You
could do 12 minutes four times a day
just vocalizing. What does it what does
it sound like?
Does it just create? Whatever. Whatever.
You have to sing a certain
>> I have I have a recording of a voice
lesson which I which I use but if not I
just the voice is a muscle.
>> So warm it up. Warm it up. That's all.
Not not rocket science.
Yeah. Healthier, stronger. Sure.
>> Okay.
intercede music
and then all of a sudden he gets busy
and he stops he stops singing and then
he thinks I want that back
most probably yes most cases yes if he
didn't abuse it or he didn't hurt it in
any way
abuse you know people get horsearo right
away because they don't speak correctly
and some the voice can be abused
But if he's healthy and goes to a
teacher
is there. It's amazing. It's amazing how
a lot of times
and I try to produce a voice, you know,
I'm thinker
terrible. I have to go to the studio
without zinging.
After a few minutes, you do the
exercises. The color comes back and the
the socket comes back.
>> Yeah, I'm not so careful with that. I'm
not sure if it's right or wrong, but I'm
not so careful with that. I mean,
obviously an hour before the concert,
don't sit down and have a,
you know, cuz on a full stomach is
Mhm. But also empty is not too good
either, right? Somewhere between hungry.
Yeah. Yeah. Are we hungry? Don't be
full.
>> Anyway, for health reasons
healthy, you know, and
>> on the road on the road I cheat on the
road is, you know,
>> problem
>> also.
Got to get sleep in. Got to get sleep.
So I try to arrive before the concert. I
have a few hours at least, you know, in
the morning.
Then when you go to sleep after you wake
up your voice is really heavy. Every
morning you wake up
>> morning voice.
>> Your voice morning voice for the radio
you know. Exactly. Exactly.
>> So it's it's a you got to figure it out
exercise.
You know people think he got money for
singing. No it's the that's what you're
getting paid for.
That luxury. Got to be careful.
the voice and and you you can't perform
>> because I have a cold because I'm sick.
>> Yeah.
>> I want to tell you
sikas
this past Shabas in
a big concert
shabas was for me
for you. Yeah.
Shabas was why
I'm trying to produce a voice. I sang a
few concerts before Shabas
in the cold in the in the my voice was
gone. Says I have a concert.
What am I going to do for me? Shabas was
push
I had no voice. I couldn't go. It was
coming.
I had a cold. I felt I'm I'm I'm done.
It's going to be who should I call to
come sing instead of me.
I was
I don't know how it happened. I didn't
vocalize
vocalize.
I can't do that.
>> Okay.
>> So after Shabas, I maybe had two hours
to to get ready before I had to go to
for a sound check and and get ready.
I don't know how it happened. I had a
voice.
I went from Shabas no voice to doing a
concert where no one had a a
few hours ago. I had no voice
was a miracle.
A miracle
I told my conductor after the concert
you know that Yuval told Yuvall that you
know a few hours earlier I had no voice.
said, "What the I didn't even couldn't
tell. I couldn't tell. My voice was
ringing
as if I was in the best of shape."
So, miracles do happen. Miracles do
happen. Then, of course, I had the story
years ago when I came to Australia.
Okay.
>> My big concert in Australia.
>> Melbourne or Sydney?
>> Both.
>> You did too.
>> Yeah. Okay.
>> So, Sydney
was already going down. I came to
Melbourne. I come out on stage.
I I knew I had no voice, but I came out
on stage because the people told me,
"Show that you're here. Tell them you're
sick and then we'll take it from there."
>> Okay.
>> So, I came out on stage. Hello,
Melbourne.
>> No,
>> I couldn't produce a sound. Laritis
finished.
I came back a few months later and did
the concert.
>> So, you you
>> I I did not sing that night. Wow.
>> Could not sing like a fling evel. And I
lost my voice there. Not not Florida, no
Eggelt.
And uh that was a memorable uh I was in
Sydney and Melbourne now a few months
ago
and uh in Melbourne people said to me,
you know, I was at Jakata where you had
no voice.
>> Wow. This is people remember that.
>> Which organization was it for? Do you
know
>> Sally Spigler?
>> Maybe. Maybe.
>> I was there last year. I spoke for at
his dinner and uh he told me that he had
you a bunch of times.
>> Oh yes Ali was this time
and so you never know is a very delicate
instrument you know
and the truth is um
I'm busy with the temperature in the
room.
>> Okay.
>> Drives me my family drives my family
crazy cuz in the summertime they want
air conditioning. I can't stand air
conditioning. dries me up in two
seconds.
>> The air conditioning is I'm allergic to
air conditioning.
>> Okay.
>> And then in the winter you put on the
steam. Too hot. It's too drying.
>> With the temperature in the room. My
family is suffering with me.
>> This is the ideal temperature
vocal cords.
>> 70.
>> Yeah. Comfortable. But if you have
blowing on you, that's that's that's
even worse. It's even worse.
So, uh it's not easy.
You have to be and then if you have
concerts and you're busy and you get a
little tickle, get a little kit. Oh,
then you're like you're climbing the
walls.
Maybe it's going to go in the
Sometimes you have a cold, but the cold
stays up here. So, you're a little bit
faked, but you can you can sing. Mhm.
>> Sometimes the cold makes its way down
into your chest when you're finished,
>> right? Cuz the first kind of cold
>> it's wet and everything's still
>> Yeah, it's open.
>> Yeah.
>> Here's open.
By the way, after that concert in Sydney
where I Melbourne where I lost my voice,
I flew back there for a concert.
>> Okay. They took me to a doctor, a voice
doctor and they said, "You have no
voice. Couldn't sing in Melbourne. You
have a big show tonight and you shall
titman gave me a cortisone shot.
Only time I took a cortisone shot.
Somehow it I I was able to sing.
Remember I had some singers backstage
standby just Yeah. Just in case I was
able to sing. Cortisone is like a a
miracle but it's not so you know don't
get don't get addicted to getting
cortisone shots.
So
a doctor.
>> Ah, you mean have to fill in for me?
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, that's a good question.
I would ask
>> I would ask organization. Yeah, I would
ask them.
>> Who they would want as a as a as a fill
in as a you know to step up and then see
what happens. I've caught my nephew
sometimes. I couldn't make it. I was
under the weather.
>> Benny.
>> Benny. Ellie.
>> Ellie. Yeah.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
But
over the years,
I've had more concerts where I was able
to sing where I wasn't able to sing.
>> Looking back,
post career is
special instances
special moments that you look back and
wow that was that was incredible the
this experience that you said earlier a
compliment
>> good question you mean from the albums
or from concerts
>> throughout the career things that
happened what special moments
>> got to think about that
>> got to think about that this little who
said
freeashem.
>> Yeah,
>> that wow that was that was a good one.
The kids are listening. Kindred are
listening. Can't fool them.
Uh oh. Some special moments.
There have been many many many
moment like I' I've had these sometimes
where sometimes I'm like I p I'm like I
can't believe I'm me right now. Like I
can't even believe I'm experiencing
this.
>> Wow. Amazing. Are you writing a book? Uh
>> multiple.
>> Good. Good. Of of your traveling of the
>> one is traveling and then there's other
a lot of my problem is um
>> you're running around too much.
>> Running around too much. Copying high
selection
>> involved in too many things and my head
is just spinning all day. My wife told
me the most my most common phrase what I
said is I have an idea.
>> But ode ideas consistency.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> Say a lot of
frustrated
potential.
Wow.
>> It's frustrating.
>> Wow.
in
the is that he's considered one of the
best singers
clearly he says
I I release
don't I don't want to hear it I don't
don't play it for me
that this is
was
very
but you think you think you didn't reach
your potential yet?
>> No, not even close.
>> On the one hand,
>> you're feeling you have more potential
potential like what are you doing?
I mean,
you're saying that there are in in
potential
milestones and
I'm pretty sure I I didn't reach my
potential yet.
>> Go for it. Go for it.
>> I am.
>> Go for it. That's great. That's good.
the monsters that's
on the other hand if you just stay with
you know
break that's a problem someone's got to
get you climb to reach your potential or
more more milestones if you want to call
it that but to answer your question that
a lot of good moments but um
Let me ask you something controversial.
Go ahead.
Substitute.
It's something he said in class.
>> Wow.
Prime Minister.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. What's the story though? has his
name in it.
>> His name
>> that's it.
>> Okay. So he was saying that you made it
for the honor of BB and he was very
upset about it.
>> Okay. If he would have called me and he
would have checked with me he would find
out that's
okay.
>> There's a there's a a place or
organization in called Miny. Okay. I'm
not sure what they do. Not sure where
they are. It's called Ma.
They were celebrating I don't know what
some celebration
I was hired to sing at the celebration
and they said since it's called ma biny
let's take a puss that has been biny in
it
>> and let's ask to make a song that's the
story of living yum Omar
>> good song very good song nothing to do
with bb nanyahu nothing the song I'm in
it okay I'm in it that's the story with
living y Okay.
>> I'm not sure how much later it worked
out. BB became prime minister.
>> Okay. Must have been
and it was a function. I think it was a
and came to speak at this celebration.
So people said to me,
"Sing it.
atu. It was written for him.
>> Nothing to do with him. It was written
for
this guy was so
>> I can imagine. I can imagine.
>> I can Oh, exactly.
I got it. I got it. That's why it's good
to check sometimes the facts.
>> Yes. Yes.
you know
celebrating something and that's it's
the song they commissioned the song
before BB was whatever
he became prime minister I had the song
just come just just come out so they
made a baby
yes
um your relationship with them nice
>> we meet every year at a yeshiva inim
that does a a dinner a celebration every
year.
>> No, it's not.
>> No,
>> I know. My bad. I'm not I'm just saying
I know they make a big
Okay.
>> Big difference.
>> Sure. Sure. Sure.
>> Big difference.
>> Uh he comes every year. last year or two
years a he didn't come but last now at
this time he was there he was there I
sing to him
and uh yeah we we uh we um connect with
but we've met we've met yeah
tough position
be in his
Exactly. Exactly.
>> Yeah.
>> That's all you can't you know like he
said critique is but he has a tough job.
Tough tough job. Whatever this is on the
subject.
>> Yeah.
And you have to do your job
or you know whatever your your
is bring them information and in
interviews that can be could inspire
them. Everything else that you do
I'm having a good time.
It's important. Well, you're human.
Yeah.
You know, if you're enjoying most of the
time,
you know, that's a big big
that's a huge.
Do you ever think like
maybe what what would have happened if
my life took a completely different
path?
No, you don't think about this.
>> No, no,
path.
This is
you have a path,
you know,
but
that the path that you're on
obviously, but should be happy with you
should feel like you're accomplishing.
>> Yeah.
>> Like you're contributing,
you know, a better place. you're doing
something for for
you know
a few
few different levels of the
what you're doing if you're happy doing
it and you feel like you're
accomplishing
>> I love what I do amazing
>> I would do it even if no one was paying
me
>> Wow
that'sing
that's amazing
family. Yeah. And it didn't used to
bother me so much.
>> How old are your kids?
>> They're young. Yeah. Very young.
Try the best you can to be home as much
as you can.
>> Yeah.
>> And when you're home, be home.
>> Yeah. I recently went somebody and
talking about all these things and the
person said, "So,
>> yeah.
finishes
finishing.
>> Okay.
>> And the go over to him says
I've been here for months and months. I
haven't traveled anywhere. So no, I felt
that while you were gain you did over
there. You did a deal over there. You
weren't you weren't here. So when you're
home, you know, be home.
But it's
navigate as best as you can.
>> Don't mind. Thank you very much.
>> Best as you can.
>> I think so.
>> Antarctica.
>> No.
>> No. No. Antarctica cruise yet?
>> Antar I don't think I was on a cruise to
Antarctica. No. Did you eaten in
Antarctica?
>> No. That's why I didn't that's why I
haven't been there.
>> You should do Eden time. I've been
there.
>> You know what? There might be probably
some scientists.
>> No, but if you know there's not too many
Jews there. There's no counters there.
So, I probably haven't been there.
>> Let's see. I haven't been to Syria.
>> We could arrange that.
>> I haven't been Iran. I came close to
Iran. Close
>> the
>> Well, I was in Turkey.
>> And you were in you just you said in
Dubai, right? In Abu Dhabi.
>> Exactly.
>> Okay. Yes. And the last time since then,
I think.
>> Yeah. Well, October 7th happened, right?
Um,
>> yeah.
>> Wherever
to be there
in Gaza and all that.
Yeah, that's
accomplishment, you know.
because this is
you know putting the life on the line.
>> Mhm.
>> So be able to bring them some and
very very honored to do that.
>> Yeah. Yeah. But they're invited. A lot
of soldiers come
>> under on their bases
>> inside Gaza.
>> I was pretty not inside Gaza. I was
pretty close when I came there beginning
of the Yeah. two years ago.
That's that's very powerful.
>> Yeah.
>> It's it's it's amazing. It's amazing.
Like the happiest people in the room.
They just came from Gaza. Their life is
in danger.
The guns are
amazing.
It's a that's a big to sing for them.
Also one of the biggest is to sing for
come into a room. The the person is
not such a good mood. They're in pain.
They're
singing with you and it's
incredible. Is I'm sure the best feeling
in the world. It's incredible for me.
That's very humbling what
is
doesn't mean you can't make
you know
but to bring some to a person who is
suffering or going through a you know
trauma something
amazing.
It doesn't like destroy you.
>> It it it Yeah.
Gota got to go on. Got to go on.
You walk in there. You know this. You're
smiling and you're singing,
but it's, you know, it's someone
suffering. It's not fun.
It's it's a they walk out of there
feeling thank you for this
the other hand why you why you torturing
this guy should be healthy he's young or
she's young you know
pregnant but you know it's
nothing you can do about that
keep climbing got to keep climbing I'm
praying that they have they have a rahia
Yeah, it's um
this all around besides the the singing
and the the popularity and the is is he
say the soldiers and then people who
needed a fa they're very special very
very special
you know
of the
It looks You're a celebrity. It looks
like a lot of fun.
It's not as fun as it looks and
>> it's difficult.
>> 100%.
>> In dim moments,
>> especially if they give you a small
hotel room where you can
>> where you can't run around and do
anything.
>> Exactly. And there have been some times
where people don't realize, you know,
they put you in a hotel. Okay. It's
cheap. It's a cheap hotel. So they save
save a couple of dollars but the room is
so tiny you can't move around. You have
to be able to move around affect your
singing.
>> It does. Don't ask for a suite. Don't
get me wrong would be nice but
>> at this point in your career you can't
be in front of
>> so business class is is is a given. I
can't sit in coach and not sleep. That's
terrible.
>> But a decent size room so I can move
around. But they don't realize. But
there have been sometimes where I said
to the guys this is too small. I I can't
move around in here. And they switch the
room. Give
>> a bigger room. Yeah. I think people now
know they've come educated
especially come the same day of a
concert room where I can walk around,
you know, move a little bit.
Specific seat off the plane. I have a
few CDs that I like to listen to.
>> I meant seats.
>> Is that your question? Oh, seats. Seats.
CD.
>> Which specific seat? A window. An aisle.
>> Window. Window. Window. Window.
my own seat by the window. Not if I can
not not uh you have to climb over you to
get out, you know,
>> right?
It's it's
and I travel with noiseancelling
headphones.
Okay.
So, I put on headphones. I put on a
button and
so quiet.
I take off my headphones for a second. I
hear the noise of the engine. How people
How do people do this for 12 hours? They
could just get used to it.
Put it back on.
People think I'm listening to music.
It's quiet
music ever.
>> Only when I'm busy recording new stuff.
>> So once it's out, it's out.
>> I Yeah, pretty much. Pretty much.
you know,
like you say, I can't believe it's me,
you know, I can't believe I did that.
Um, there's some good, like you said,
some good albums. Good stuff out there.
>> Yeah,
>> some good stuff out there.
Um, but when I'm working on something,
I'll listen over and over and over
again. Maybe I could have done this
better,
you know.
But the old stuff, well, sometimes
sometimes I like listening to Kazanus.
Kazanus makes me
I enjoy Kazanus.
>> Anybody specific?
>> Anybody good? Old, new.
>> I love I dabble in here and there.
>> If I didn't do I didn't do I mean uh we
do more more my stuff.
or
you know that kind of light
music.
No, no. I'm working now on new stuff.
Have a lot of new stuff coming out. Like
over over 20 songs ready. Is that is
that one album or two?
>> Whatever. There's no albums today. Just
release songs on streaming and that's
it.
>> Album, man.
>> Album doesn't mean doesn't mean
physical.
>> Yeah, it means online. I'll put out 10
songs online. That's an album today,
>> right?
>> Undeveloped.
No more albums.
>> Development concept collection. The mode
of distribution is on.
>> Exactly. Exactly. Okay. You can call it
call it that.
I'm just looking for one or two more
solid stuff and I'm ready.
I have I have more than 20 songs ready,
mixed, ready to go. But I'm waiting for
that
song.
>> No,
>> English.
>> No, that I have
>> that I have.
I'm looking.
He's waiting for one song.
>> That's it. That's it.
