connected if I never develop my soul then obviously I'm not going to have a place in the world to come because the world to come it's only for the soul it's not really for the body those of you that were with us last week then you got principle number 13 where we spoke about this right so the rambam says on what is it dependent that you're going to be called Israel right this is a good question how do you belong to a Jewish people and he answers like this quote whoever keeps follows and believes on the 13 principles of Faith even if he does not keep all of the mitv he might even be eating pig and I mean you'll be punished for that but even if you ate Pig you still belong to a Jewish people and to a community of God but right if you do not believe and do not follow the 13 principles of Faith even if you follow the 63 Commandments you do not belong to a Jewish people or the community of God it is you called a heretic someone that uprooted the plants and it's a Mitzvah to hate you okay this is what that says so pretty much all of your belonging to Jewish people is dependent on the 13 principles of Faith by the way I'm not going to go through this yet but if you ever see a lot of sects of Judaism like reform conservative all of these things what they did was that they negated some of these principles now obviously if you're born Jewish you're still Jewish whatever you want right but if I negate what makes me Jewish or if I convert into something that is not really Judaism then I'm not really called Jewish what does it means to be called Jewish at the end of the day in a practical sense the following and the understanding and the believing of these 13 principles of faith and you're going to see this we're going to go into this in a few minutes you're going to see that a lot of people do not believe in this because they don't think of it as being logic or they're too far away or whatever you want but the r says you believe in this you're part of the community of God keep or whatever yes by the way lots of people say they have they don't really right so the Ten Commandments all deal with the concept of God this is why the first commandment says I am the Lord your God that's not a commandment no that is because the me the real commandment is beli in God there is a God now why do these 13 principles and nothing else so the Tora tells us and we're going to go into it the 13 principles deal with the two main ideas of the whole entire Tor number one who or what is God okay okay and number two how do I relate to God okay this is the 13 principles of Faith they deal with these two ideas again who or what is God okay and how do I relate to him can I have Judaism if I don't know who God is can I have Judaism if I don't know how to relate to God obviously not because the whole purpose of life is to come into this world in order to have a relationship with God but how can I relate to God if I don't even know who no good and therefore the Tor says this is the fundamentals because they deal with the two ideas of which all of the Tora is about I'll give you an example there is this masal this metaphor there was once these two poor people that were dying of starvation so they didn't know what to do they needed to get money quick so they started thinking what can we do in order to make money so they decided you know what we should do let's take someone we dress him up as a king and we go into a city and we say long leave the king long leave the king what do people do when when kings come into a city they throw flowers they throw jewelry they throw money right so they said what should we do listen to what should we do we're going to take someone we're going to dress him up as a king you and I are going to be the entage we're going to go this is very important what I'm going to tell you right now and you have no idea which God you're serving that's the biggest insult in the world if you are having a relationship with someone and you don't know how they want you to have a relationship with them that's the greatest insult in the world because the whole point of our relationship is I want to make you happy but if I could care less about what makes you happy then how am I having a relationship right and therefore the 13 principles are get to know God so you could relate to God by the way this is a huge problem in Judaism nowadays I always say we have people that are from we have people that are not from the people are not from you're doing K you're getting them close the people that are from they have no idea what they're doing they have no idea what is it that you know like there's no joy there's no happiness there's no relationship cuz they don't even know God how how can you love and fear a God that you do
