*CRUMPSALL:* Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis will daven at Heaton Park Synagogue this Yom Kippur, one year after the terror attack which killed Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz HY'D. He and his wife promised survivor Yoni Finlay they would return if he recovered enough to lead part of the service. The Chief Rabbi said memories remain “exceptionally fresh”, with some members still apprehensive about returning.

PM Andy Burnham welcomed Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin to No 10 North in Manchester this morning, making him the first international leader to visit the new government base.The two leaders held talks on UK-Ireland relations, the Good Friday Agreement and closer ties with the European Union. GMP intelligence Officers raided a warehouse on Wilson Street, Beswick, and found a large-scale cannabis farm worth an estimated £1m, complete with an extensive lighting setup. One suspect was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug offences and remains in custody. GMP says the discovery came from community intelligence and is urging residents to keep reporting concerns.

British Airways and Iberia Express are expected to resume flights to Israel on October 25 after suspending services during the war. Iberia Express plans to restart Tel Aviv–Madrid flights, while British Airways is expected to resume Tel Aviv–London services. Their return would increase direct flight options for Israeli travelers. British intelligence says it has uncovered an Iranian spyware campaign targeting dissidents, activists and journalists worldwide. State-linked hackers allegedly used fake documents and impersonated trusted contacts to install spyware known as Chosen Brick, which can steal messages, track movements and access microphones. British, U.S. and Dutch agencies have linked the campaign to Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security.

*PRESTWICH:* A section of Heywood Road has been closed after a sinkhole appeared this afternoon.It is not the first time the road has suffered a collapse. A large sinkhole appeared in 2016, while another caused the Heywood Road and Bury New Road junction to close in 2021. Smaller sinkholes were also reported near Bury Old Road in 2023.United Utilities says a team has been sent to investigate whether its assets are involved.

An inquiry into the case of Lucy Letby found that three more babies could have been saved if an earlier case of insulin poisoning had been detected. Hospital management failed to act on concerns about nurse Lucy Letby, meaning two babies died and five others were harmed who might otherwise have been protected. Lady Justice Thirlwall described this as a “complete failure” in safeguarding, citing poor leadership and communication.She recommended major NHS reforms, including 24-hour neonatal cot cameras and stronger oversight.
