Traversa Burdinota Barbera d’Alba: oh do I love this wine! Comes, as its name suggests, from the Alba subregion of Piedmont in northern Italy. The same region where The world’s finest and rarest truffles (especially the white ones) grow. Barbera is a native Italian variety that, much like Pinot Noir, has pretty thin skin, but it is naturally high in acidity, and loaded with flavor. Unmistakably Italian! Deep purple color, with aromas of ripe maraschino cherries, blackberries, anis, balsamic, and a touch of violet, followed by subtle earthy undertones. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied with lively acidity, and a juicy core of ripe red and black fruit with black licorice, black truffle, and balsamic with earthy minerals and ripe tannins, finish long with dark chocolate covered cherries. This delicious wine is a tribute to the rustic yet generous character of Barbera, a variety that I am a big fan of. I was excited when I was first told it was produced and when I heard it came in. Footage circulating online appears to show a Palestinian sewage tanker dumping waste into Nahal Hebron, southwest of Otniel in Judea and Samaria. The video was reportedly uploaded by Facebook user Maher Rayan before apparently being deleted.
The tanker in the footage reportedly carries a Hebron-area Palestinian license plate. A phone number painted on the vehicle was linked online to Al Saeed Company, a sewage-tanker business in al Dhahiriya, but the vehicle’s current ownership has not been independently confirmed.
