*LA Relaxes Parking Enforcement For Upcoming Yomim Tovim*
The Los Angeles Department of Transportation will relax certain parking restrictions in many Jewish neighborhoods during the upcoming Yomim Tovim.
Simply put: street cleaning, posted time limits and preferential/permit parking restrictions will generally not be enforced in the designated areas during the holiday periods. Parking meters, tow-away zones and safety violations will still be enforced.
The relaxed enforcement schedule is:
Rosh Hashanah — Friday, Sept. 11 at noon through Monday, Sept. 14 at noon.
Yom Kippur — Sunday, Sept. 20 at noon through Tuesday, Sept. 22 at noon.
Sukkos — Friday, Sept. 25 at noon through Saturday, Oct. 3 at noon.
Shemini Atzeres & Simchas Torah — Friday, Oct. 2 at noon through Monday, Oct. 5 at noon.
The exemptions cover large portions of the frum neighborhoods in Hancock Park, Pico-Robertson, Valley Village, Encino and other areas of Los Angeles, along with numerous specifically designated streets.
One important reminder: this is not free parking everywhere. Meters still need to be paid, and tow-away and other safety restrictions remain fully enforceable.

A magnitude 3.4 earthquake struck the Inland Empire early Wednesday morning at approximately 5.37 local time, with shaking reported across parts of Southern California.

*Beverly Hills Police have announced an arrest in connection with last night’s deadly altercation*
According to a new BHPD media release, 19-year-old Conoray Lawantara of Beverly Hills was arrested on suspicion of murder. Police say Lawantara remains hospitalized due to an injury, and his arraignment date will be determined later.
*Rotting Food Finally Gone From Boyle Heights Warehouse — But The Stench Isn’t*
After more than two months of misery for nearby residents, millions of pounds of rotting food have finally been removed from the burned Lineage cold-storage warehouse in Boyle Heights. Officials confirmed the last of the rotting food was competely cleared from the facility by Sunday Morning August 30th.
But neighbors say the nightmare isn’t over. The foul smell continues to plague the neighborhood, while residents are still reporting flies and rats around their homes. Air-quality regulators have received nearly 5,000 odor complaints and issued dozens of violations connected to the facility.
Crews are now working to remove remaining debris and clean and disinfect the facility. The overall cleanup is expected to cost more than $100 million.
For Boyle Heights residents who have endured the stench all summer, getting the spoiled food out is a major milestone — but they’re still waiting for the day they can finally open their windows without the smell.
*New Fast & Furious Roller Coaster Gets Opening Date At Universal Studios*
One of Southern California’s most anticipated new attractions finally has an opening date.
Universal Studios Hollywood announced that its new “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” roller coaster is set to open to the public on September 10.
The high-speed outdoor coaster features 360-degree rotating ride vehicles designed to make riders feel as though they are drifting through turns — all while racing above parts of the theme park.
The attraction is the first major outdoor roller coaster in Universal Studios Hollywood’s history.
*LA County Sues State Farm Over Palisades And Eaton Fire Claims*
Los Angeles County filed a lawsuit Monday against State Farm, accusing the insurance giant of mishandling claims from homeowners affected by the devastating Palisades and Eaton fires.
The county alleges that some wildfire survivors faced unreasonable delays, inadequate investigations and difficulty receiving benefits they were entitled to under their policies.
The lawsuit comes as thousands of Los Angeles-area homeowners continue rebuilding following the January 2025 fires. State Farm has faced separate scrutiny from California regulators over its handling of wildfire claims.
*Major Downtown LA Street Closures Begin Near Convention Center*
Drivers heading through Downtown Los Angeles should expect delays as daytime closures begin on Venice Boulevard near the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Westbound Venice Boulevard will be closed between the 110 Freeway/Convention Center Drive and Figueroa Street from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. The closures are connected to work on the massive $2.6 billion expansion and modernization of the Convention Center.
Drivers will be detoured through Figueroa Street and Olympic Boulevard. The current work is scheduled through Friday, with additional closures September 8–11.
*Man Killed In Late-Night Beverly Hills Altercation*
A man was killed following an altercation in a Beverly Hills alley late Sunday night, in what police say appears to have been an isolated incident.
Beverly Hills Police responded at approximately 11:39 p.m. Sunday to the alley behind the 400 block of North Palm Drive, in the residential Flats area. Officers found one man suffering from a wound to his neck. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.
A second man involved in the altercation, described by police as a Beverly Hills resident, was also injured and transported to a hospital for treatment.
BHPD detectives are investigating what led to the deadly confrontation.
The identities of the two men have not yet been released.
*Southern California Finally Cooling Down After Days Of Heat*
After several days of temperatures reaching the upper 90s and even triple digits in parts of Southern California, much cooler weather has arrived.
Temperatures across the Los Angeles area are returning to more seasonal levels, with Downtown LA forecast to reach around 84 degrees today.
The humidity is also expected to ease away from the immediate coast, making for a much more comfortable start to the week after last week’s unusually hot and muggy weather.
*New Waymos Hit Los Angeles Streets*
Waymo is rolling out its new Ojai autonomous vehicles across Los Angeles, giving riders a first look at the next generation of driverless cars.
The new electric Waymos have a roomier, minivan-style design with sliding doors, more passenger space and Waymo’s latest self-driving technology.
Around 300 of the new vehicles are already serving early-access riders across Los Angeles, San Francisco and Phoenix, with more expected to hit the streets soon.
*Dead Body Found On Highland Near 101 Freeway*
Authorities are investigating after a dead body was found on Highland Avenue near the 101 Freeway in Hollywood.
The body was discovered right off the freeway, prompting an emergency response to the area. Details surrounding the death, including the identity of the person and how they died, have not yet been released.
LA SCOOP has not yet found an official LAPD release providing additional details on the incident.
Drivers traveling through the Highland Avenue/101 area should be prepared for possible police activity and delays while the investigation continues.

*El Al Heading To San Francisco — United Will Already Have Competition When It Returns*
The competition for nonstop flights between Israel and the West Coast is heating up.
El Al is scheduled to begin nonstop service between Tel Aviv and San Francisco on October 25, operating three times a week. That gives El Al several months on the route before United Airlines resumes its own nonstop SFO–Tel Aviv service on March 28, 2027.
That means when United returns to the route in March, it won't have San Francisco–Israel nonstop service to itself. Travelers will already have El Al as another nonstop option.
For Los Angeles travelers heading to Israel, the SFO flights could actually be a better option than connecting through Newark, despite more total time in the air.
As LA SCOOP previously pointed out, Newark can be quicker overall. But flying United from Hollywood Burbank Airport to SFO and then continuing on United to Tel Aviv changes the equation considerably. Travelers can stay on the same airline while avoiding the traffic, long lines and massive terminals at LAX.
For Valley residents, the convenience is especially significant. Hollywood Burbank Airport can be as little as 10 minutes from Valley Village, making it an extremely easy starting point for a trip to Israel.
Burbank can also faster to get to than LAX from Hancock Park. Even for Pico-Robertson residents, where Burbank is farther away, avoiding the congestion and long lines at LAX could make the SFO connection attractive.
The bigger question for Southern California remains the same: When will another airline like United or Delta finally compete with El Al on nonstop LAX–Tel Aviv service?
*Early Morning Structure Fire Breaks Out Near Romaine And Vine In Hollywood*
Los Angeles firefighters responded to an early morning structure fire Sunday on Romaine Street, just east of Vine Street.
The fire was reported near Romaine Street and El Centro Avenue, prompting a large LAFD response with numerous engines, trucks and rescue ambulances sent to the scene.
Fire crews were working at the building early Sunday morning. Drivers should use caution around Romaine Street in the area while emergency crews remain on scene.
