The Rebbe explained that besides for fulfilling a Biblical commandment, hanging a kosher Mezuzah on your doorposts brings extra protection - physical and spiritual - to your home. The month of Elul is a particularly auspicious time to check the Mezuzahs again, to bring additional merit and blessings in the days leading up to the Days of Judgement and the High Holidays.
