America's First Aishes Chayil

Rebecca Gratz created the first Jewish orphanages in America. By age twenty she founded the first American Jewish institution run by women, the Philadelphia Orphan Asylum, that was both an orphanage and a Hebrew Sunday School. She dedicated her life to safeguarding Jewish women and children, securing their education, and preserving their heritage for the next generation.
