The Story Behind Rav Zvi Kushelevsky's Haskama For the Sefer Birchas HaTzadik from the Ben L'Ashri

Blessing Letter Rosh Yeshiva: Rabbi Zvi Kushelevsky Heichal HaTorah Betzion With the help of Heaven Tammuz 5784 (June/July 2024) Approximately four years ago, the respected Rebbetzin brought me the commentary on the Torah by the great and righteous Kabbalist, Rabbi Yitzchak Huberman, may his memory be a blessing. He wrote that he would pray for anyone who shared his words of Torah with others, and it is a simple and clear matter that his prayers have great power, especially concerning the matter of "enduring offspring" (Zera shel Kayama). Besides this great matter, when I saw the words of Torah in the book, I tasted and felt how pleasant they are, and that the great author, may his memory be a blessing, knew how to interpret words of Torah with wonderful depth. Therefore, every day I chose a section from his words of Torah, called three people, and told them words of Torah from the author, may his memory be a blessing, and they enjoyed it very much. In addition to this, on the day of the author's Yahrzeit (anniversary of his death), may his memory be a blessing, I said the author's words of Torah to all the students of the holy Yeshiva. I also went up to his holy burial site to pray. I will tell you an interesting thing: the first year I went up to his holy burial site, it was raining heavily close to sunset. I arrived at Har Hamenuchot (Mount of Rest) and did not see anyone I could ask where the author's burial site was. But at the last moment before sunset, the Holy One, Blessed be He, sent me a righteous person who was not accustomed to being there. He took me, in the pouring rain, to show me the burial site, and I saw that the Holy One, Blessed be He, helped me because I did not despair of salvation. The way of the author, may his memory be a blessing, in his Torah commentary is that he wrote words of Torah using the method of Pardes, meaning that sometimes he interprets in the way of P'shat (simple meaning), and sometimes in the way of Remez (hint), Drash (homily), and Sod (secret/kabbalah). Therefore, a person who lacks knowledge in Kabbalah cannot understand the words of this righteous man from Raanana, may his memory be a blessing. Therefore, the great Rabbi Daniel Yaakov Glatstein, may he live a long and good life, Rabbi of the Tiferes Mordechai community in Cedarhurst, New York, who teaches Torah and fear of Heaven to his flock, and is the author of the book "Maggid Harakiah" on the Torah and holidays, has clarified and selected from the book "Ben L'Ashri" words of Torah that were written in the revealed manner (derech hanigleh) so that everyone can taste the sweetness of the Torah of the righteous author, may his memory be a blessing. It is important to know that all segulos (spiritual remedies) cannot be effective unless a person believes in God and does not despair of being saved. A person must say to the Holy One, Blessed be He: "Since you are the Merciful Father and you want me to be happy, therefore I ask you to bring me into the palace of mercy where no sin enters, and to give me what I need." When a person prays and believes in God and does not despair, then they are worthy of salvation. I bless the great Rabbi Daniel Yaakov, may he live a long and good life, that he will merit to teach Torah with joy and peace of mind, and that he will merit to publish more books to bring merit to the public, and to magnify and glorify the Torah. May it be the will that the merit of the author will stand for all who fear Heaven. Had I seen him from the front, I would be even more incisive, as it is written: “And your eyes shall see your teacher” (Isaiah 30:20). Seeing the face of one’s teacher increases one’s understanding and sharpens one’s mind.
