Amazing Story About Rav Yonatan Eybeschutz Ztl

Rabbi Yaron Reuven tells the story of Rav Yonatan Eybeschutz, a great Rabbi who was willing to sacrifice everything to save a fellow Jew. Rav Yonatan's friend was imprisoned by Christians and was about to be executed. To save his friend, Rav Yonatan gave all his money to a guard. He then told his friends that he already paid the guard and saved his friend, even though he knew he still had to come up with the rest of the money. When Rav Yonatan returned home, his wife was overjoyed because a Christian, who claimed to be stealing from the church, gave her three buckets full of diamonds and gold, saying that Rav Yonatan was an honest Jew. Rav Yonatan was devastated. He realized that even though he had done a good deed by saving his friend, he had not shared the Mitzvah with his friends, making the Mitzvah incomplete. He understood that a true love for HaShem means doing a Mitzvah with the intention of serving Him, not for personal gain.
