Real compromise doesn’t just mean compromising on matters of convenience. It means compromising on our values as well. However, what must be understood is that compromise itself is a value, and indeed a core value. Therefore, paradoxically, by pursuing compromise we do not actually compromise our values but uphold them. On a deeper level, we may articulate this idea as follows: compromising with my spouse is not about giving in to another person but rather about giving into G-d by creating the peace within which the Divine Presence can rest.
