Why Do Jews Feast on Shabbat?
On the sanctified day of Shabbat, why do we place so much emphasis on food? For it is precisely the holy Shabbat that teaches us about our interfacing with the material world. The purpose of the soul's descent is to refine and elevate the body through its observance of many physical mitzvot. Heaven does not need to see another spiritual epiphany. Heaven delights in the body's discovery of the joy of Shabbat. This video was produced for Lesson 4 of Pause & Affect, a course by the Rosh Chodesh Society.
