In March of 1988, with Israel under massive pressure from the Reagan Administration to accept a U.S.-brokered "peace plan," Peace Now held massive demonstrations in Israel, pressuring Prime Minister Yitzchak Shamir to sign on the dotted line, and abandon security interests vital to Israel's survival. On March 21 (3 Nissan, 5748) Reuben and Rose Mattus, founders of the Häagen-Dazs ice cream brand, visited the Rebbe, seeking guidance before their upcoming meeting with Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, and offering to carry a message from the Rebbe to the Prime Minister.
