The Lubavitcher Rebbe on the Assassination Attempt on President Reagan

An address on the Rebbe's birthday, shortly after the assassination attempt on US President Ronald Reagan's life. We pray for the welfare of the President, who graciously sent his birthday greetings despite his current medical situation. May he have a speedy and complete recovery. Torah demands that a true leader advocate for both the public and private interests. A Head of State who leads by this principle merits G-d's assistance, and his goals will be fulfilled even more completely than he could have envisioned. G-d conducts every detail in this world, and certainly a country which has a role of leadership for the entire world. The President's leadership must be permeated with the deepest faith, whereby he dedicates himself entirely to G-d. This faith will fortify both his spiritual and physical wellbeing and will benefit all his decisions for the sake of G-d and man.
