The Attempted Assassinations On Reagan: What Can We Learn?

Both the recent attempt on Congresswoman Gillford's life and the assassination attempt of Ronald Reagan in 1981 prove that poverty cannot be blamed as the true source of crime. Crime comes from a deeper source. Let us consider this country's educational philosophy: From day one it is made clear to the student that it is not the school's role to "trespass on his private life" and influence his character growth; rather he is taught to be an independent person, and that the school merely offers him the opportunity to accumulate knowledge. Any discussion of ethics is based upon "fear of the law" - that if he is fool enough to be caught breaking the law, he will be punished. Teaching "morality" in this way undermines the focus and belief that above there is "an Eye that sees and an Ear that hears" all one's actions. If the awareness of G-d would be properly instilled in the students, it would prove to be the most powerful deterrent from crime.
