Stony Point Police Make Two Arrests in Vehicle Burglary Investigation
Stony Point Police have closed a series of vehicle burglary cases after a swift investigation that led to the arrests of two suspects tied to the same pattern of thefts. The case began early on November 25, when officers received multiple reports of items stolen from vehicles in a neighborhood off South Liberty Drive. Investigators immediately gathered and reviewed security footage from homes and local businesses. The videos, shared on Rockland Daily social media, showed a suspect entering several vehicles and removing property. Stony Point officers were able to develop a lead with assistance from the Haverstraw Police Department, which had recently arrested the same suspect, Wellington Remigio of Haverstraw, for a similar string of larcenies in their own jurisdiction. Using that information, Stony Point Police identified Remigio and located him later that morning. He was found in possession of stolen property and crack cocaine and was arrested on multiple charges before being remanded to the Rockland County Jail. As the investigation continued, detectives obtained additional footage and conducted interviews, which led them to a second individual connected to the thefts. Clear video from the Stony Point Budget Motor Inn showed Elizabeth Martello of Tomkins Cove with property stolen from vehicles earlier that morning. Officers located her on December 2 and placed her under arrest. Martello also had an active bench warrant and several failures to appear and was remanded to the Rockland County Jail on bail. The back-to-back arrests reflect the strong cooperation between Stony Point and Haverstraw Police, as well as the precise, detail-focused investigative work that brought this case to a quick resolution. Their efforts resulted in the recovery of numerous stolen items and restored safety and peace of mind to residents in the affected neighborhood
