Sleep - David Frankel

A song born from a moment of desperate comfort in cinema history. This piece is my piano and lyrical arrangement of a beautiful, poignant melody originally composed by the genius Charlie Chaplin for his masterpiece, "The Kid" (1921). Chaplin wrote this music for the tender, sorrowful scene where the Tramp and the Kid are on the run from social services and finally collapse together, seeking refuge and rest from their ordeal. My lyrics are an attempt to capture the vulnerability shown in that silent moment. I am blessed to be joined by the gifted Gabriel Yee on the violin, whose touch perfectly echoes the film's emotion.
