It was initially inspired by the ancient prayer chant* of "Birkhat Kohanim”, the Priestly (Aaronic) Blessing. This prayer is most famously celebrated on the intermediary days of Passover and the Feast of the Tabernacles as hundreds of thousands flock to the western wall, the spot where the priests themselves would bless us with this prayer in temple times. * The particular chant is from the traditional Chabad melody.
