Firefighters, along with Hatzolah and Shomrim volunteers, responded to a serious fire that broke out in a residential building at 54th Street and 12th Avenue on Sunday early morning. As thick smoke filled the upper floors, Hatzolah members were seen banging on windows to alert and check on residents before the arrival of the FDNY. In a dramatic rescue effort, Shomrim and Hatzolah members were spotted helping an elderly woman escape through the back window of her apartment to safety. The FDNY quickly arrived and began battling the flames while continuing search and rescue operations inside the building. Thanks to the swift teamwork between the FDNY, Hatzolah, and Shomrim, all residents were safely evacuated. Close to 30 people were treated at the scene, most of them suffering from minor injuries or smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation
