It's a tradition passed down all the way from the Baal Shem Tov, who received the revelation from Moshiach himself: The dissemination of Chasidic teachings brings Moshiach closer. In 1978, as printing became much more accessible, the Rebbe took that effort to the next level: A campaign was launched to print editions of the Tanya in as many locations as possible, all around the world. To date, thousands of editions have been added to the still-growing list.
