OJBA Mini Lunch Break with Nesanel Gantz | Chaim Weiss of Masterpiece Precast
Chaim Weiss has a fascinating story to tell. In fact, his story is so interesting it was tough to summarize it! Chaim is a Montreal native, and he learned not to be scared of hard work young, in his father’s butcher shop where he helped out from the time he was a kid. After learning in kollel for a short time, he started out in the dry cleaning business. He then tried out construction site management before landing in the masonry business in a company that poured sidewalks and also did stone work for commercial buildings. This is where Chaim was introduced to precast stone. Precast stone is designed for beauty and decorativeness. It comes in 70 colors and shades and is used to add beauty to a building. Every project requires a custom cast in which the stone is poured. It is a meticulous, detail-oriented process. While working as a construction site manager he had noticed an uncanny thing. The companies that produced the precast were always late on deliveries, and caused projects to be drag on far longer than they should have. This created a lot of stress for everyone else involved. That’s when he had his light bulb moment- he would do precast- but he would deliver a GREAT product and he would DELIVER ON TIME. All these years later, Masterpiece Precast stands out in the industry for the quality of their work, and their commitment to delivering when they say they will. One of the ways they do this is by mostly using foam molds which can produce the precast much more quickly than rubber or wood ones. Of course, there’s a long, complex story that happened on the way to today’s successful company of 30 employees kah. It involves Chaim boldly offering to buy a company that didn't want to sell, borrowing every dollar he needed to buy that company, finding out that there wasn’t much of a client list or profitability, having promises made to him that were broken, and partnering up with his brother-in-law…it’s a great story and worth hearing every detail!
